Good morning, Creeky. How's Thursday looking?
UK fan...dressing like a fruitcake would be one option. That's why I was thinking of the videos, so you could see some of the options. I don't recall having seen grass skirts and coconut bras (another option) for sale when I was in the UK.

When did he say that? I've just been teased by an Aussie saying that Jimmy is touring England after he's toured Austrailia (in other words Never!)
I will have to keep my ears open for more news.

Maybe Jimmy will visit England after we've won the Rugby World Cup!
Ooops!!
He visited here in 87 and said last year he is coming here - so maybe a trip to Australia for you might be an idea (I aint joking - he has said it - and others will confirm - just that he has never done anything than say he is coming here).

He said it a few times at concerts last year in the USA that he was coming to Australia nad it was on Radio Margaritaville - but we will believe it when we see it.UK_FAN wrote:When did he say he was coming to Aus?
Is there a big fan base there? Do you have an Austrailian JB fan club? The UK has one called P.H.U.K (!) which I am hoping to join very soon!

He sold out here in Newcastle in 87 - and we are not that big a city - he has a pretty big but "underground" following out here.UK_FAN wrote:If it's anything like here in Britain, most people have never heard of Buffett which i guess is the reason he's not to keen on playing here. Is he well known in Aus? ie) Would he be able to fill a venue?

A great reason to join a parrot head club is to be able to attend and participate in Meeting of the Minds in Key West in early November. It is the annual parrot head convention and a great good time, and Jimmy has shown up several times over the years. Go to the pictures page at atlantaparrotheadclub.org to get an idea of what goes on.UK_FAN wrote:When did he say he was coming to Aus?

As a veteran of 52 Jimmy shows, dating back to 1976, this stuff can really change your life. But I can guarantee you that until you have attended a show at one of the really wild venues, you really can't imagine what all this madness is about! There are a lot of really good reasons I've been to 52 shows, and the end is not in sight.

A wild venue can be any place that opens the gates early, allows full-blown tailgating, has hot, sunny weather (ideally), a Buffett tradition, a weekend show (preferably). I've been to many like this, but here's a list of the best, in no particular order:
Atlanta - can be truly legendary on a weekend in the summer. Gates often open at 9 am.
Boston - Great Woods
Irvine, CA
Nissan in Manassas, VA
Alpine Valley
Pittsburgh
This isn't all, but the ones that come to mind immediately. I can honestly say the best times of my life have been spent at Buffett show, both before and during the show. There's really nothing like them!

Thanks Cayman.
Have made a note of the venues.
Not sure what 'full-blown tailgating' is. In England the cops will pull you over you for tailgating and you will be prosecuted for Dangerous driving. It's getting to be really big thing over here...it means driving much too close to the car in front of you at high speeds on a motorway. Is that what it means in U.S too? If so, not sure why that's considered a really wild time or am I missing the point?
Yours, rather confusingly,

Ahhh UK. Tailgating = 2 meanings in the US.
The first is the same as it means to you in the UK.
The second is basically a parking lot celebration that Parrotheads enjoy pre-concert. We park our cars (sometimes boats) and hang out and have a party in the parking lot before we see the concert--cook up some burgers, drink beers, and listen to music.
There are some tailgating pros on this site. I'm sure you'll hear from them
Does that help?
