Great Woods 2005 - Correct Me If I'm Wrong...

But didn't Jimmy release a statement last year, or make a statement at one of the Fenway dates, that he would be back at Great Woods in 2005?

I could swear that I read this several times in threads on this forum.

Am I right, or is my memory shot?

Radio Margaritaville's Steve Huntington made a statement last year before the Fenway shows something like "Stop complaining about Jimmy playing in Fenway and not going to GW he will be back there next year" not word for word but it is close. I don't think Jimmy ever came out and said he will be back at Great Woods in 2005.

Either way, Buffett is not going to Great Woods this year! It looks like a done deal that Buffett will play @ Gillette Stadium on July 4th weekend.

Thanks...that sounds like what I recall hearing.

It would not be the first time that Steve passed along misinformation.

One thing is for sure, if JB plays Gillette, there is no way he will be playing Jones Beach this year; waaay too small a venue for his current state of mind.

I guess with all his country music crossover success, the days of small and medium size venues are gone forever.

Looks like he has finally sold out and gone the stadium route...and I'm more than just a little sad.

Let's not go into Jimmy selling out. Let the man enjoy his life and do what he pleases. Personally for me he has given my life a great deal of enjoyment that I can handle a few stadium shows just as long as he keeps playing.

Mike:

I did not - and I do not - plan on going on a tear about "Jimmy selling out," but what is so darned verboten about expressing such a sentiment?

Any time I see someone express the slightest negative sentiment about his recent choice of venues, he/she is inevitably barraged by JB devotees who pound said person into the ground.

IMHO, this is a valid sentiment, and I have said all I wish to say on the topic. But let's not lose sight of some objectivity here.

What are you talking about? All of the dates released thus far are for medium-sized arenas (20,000 or so).

I heard he's going to play at the University of Michigan in the Wolverines Footbal Stadium which holds 107,501 at $100 per ticket.
