I don;t know who Jerry Jeff Walker( I have read so many things about hism)is and I would like to know what CD of his that I should get first to find out what it is all about. Also, don't know who Guy Clark is. Can someone polease hep me out here?[/quote]
For your first Jerry Jeff Walker cd, I would get 'Cowboy Boots & Bathin' Suits'. That is a great cd, and the title track is one of my favorites. 'Gonzo Stew' and 'Scamp' are also good cd's to have.
Hope this helps.

Bring me the hot sauce, bring me a beer. Going to be the last man standing, but where do you go from here?
Jerry Jeff co-wrote "Railroad Lady" with Buffett but there's a lot more to their history than that song. Jerry Jeff authored a book called Gypsy Songman a few years back that should help you learn lots more if you're so inclined to check it out. For album recommendations, I second Cowboy Boots and Bathing Suits but also suggest the live album Viva Terlingua. If you're a fan of Austin City Limits you're probably already familiar with the theme song, "London Homesick Blues" (penned by one time Jerry Jeff band member Gary P. Nunn) that can be found on that album. Another great songwriter and performer in his own right, Ray Wylie Hubbard, has his song "Up Against The Wall Red Neck" covered on that album. And least I forget, Jerry Jeff is the one responsible for writing the timeless classic "Mr. Bojangles".
Guy Clark is a Texas singer/songwriter who's best known song is perhaps "Homegrown Tomatoes" but his songcraft runs much deeper than that. Buffett covers his song "Boats to Build" on License To Chill. Guy is one of those rarest of artists who I don't think has ever cut a bad album, I consider every one of them classics.

OK, good for you. The only point that was being made from Goodman was that Buffett has strayed a little from his non-mainstream roots. We all still love Jimmy Buffett (notice how I capitalize the "B" in his name ) Some of just remember the good old days when it wasn't about frozen shrimp, Margaritaville/CIP restaurants, and tequila but about the music. With that being said, there isn't a one of us who wouldn't trade shoes with Jimmy and his success. I respect Jimmy and consider him to be a very wise business man who can happen to sing and bring a lot of joy into many people's lives. I hope this helps you realize that we are not "Buffett Basher."
P.S. I respect him enough to capitalize the "B" in his name every time I mention it.....boy am I mature
I am basically still a newbie here, however, I don't really care about Mr Buffett's financial interests, be it shrimp, restaurants, tequila, etc. All I care about is his music. I don't care about his business smarts. That is none of my business. I like what I like. I have only been listening to Mr. B's music for about 3years, even though I am only afew years younger than Mr. B, and I don't understand all this comparising. This is liike comparing apples to oranges. Everybody's music is different, they have their own style, and if they happen tohave the same style, good. Flattery is the greatest form of praise That asside, I don;t know who Jerry Jeff Walker( I have read so many things about hism)is and I would like to know what CD of his that I should get first to find out what it is all about. Hey it's cool. As far as a great Jerry Jeff album, I would start with "Cowboy boots and Bathing Suits" or "Gonzo Stew." As far as Guy Clark Goes, you really can't go wrong with any of his albums. I would suggest "Boats to Build," "The Dark," or "Dublin Blues." Enjoy.
I'm back to livin' Floridays

Thanks everybody for the input. Next time I'm at Best Buy I'll look for it, or is there a better source to go go? BTW, & not tochange the subject, but this afternoon I turned on the vaction station on serius(?) channel on the dish netwook just in time to her JB say This is Jimmy Buffett and welcome to the vacation station on the Serius network (something like that) and they they play Jolly Mon. That is a nice station. Then a song came on by a guy called Bob Karvin and it was Never Met the Man and it was all about living the lifestyle and trying to meet MB. Has anyone else ever heard this? It was real cute.

I don't think the CD is available on www.jerryjeff.com or say amazon etc; unless of course you are in a record shop in Texas. Any advice?
Thanks
I know Jimmy Buffett, Jimmy Buffett is a friend of mine. Son, you're no Jimmy Buffett!
As quoted by Marvin Gardens 4/1/89
kinda tired of hearing about JJW on the BUFFETT forum. i know this is buffett related, but most of them arent. they should go in the off topic forum, where we all talk about our other favorite artists.
sorry, im in a bad mood. my GF is at the beach while im stuck in this crappy south louisiana weather. and mardi gras isnt doing the trick.
nevertheless....................(i just like saying "nevertheless")
I'm a major league newbe, so if this does not go to the place a wanted, please forgive me and help me. I have been a very long time looker to BN, but not an active participant in the form. I've been a parrot head from 1975, I don't think we were known as parrot heads back then.-- I was happy being a voyeur. However, when Jerry Jeff Walker became a part of your discussion, I had to join in. In my opinion, if you are starting out on JJW, begin with "Jerry Jeff Walker" 1972 (only in cassette and vinyl). Then Viva Terlingua (1973), available on CD. Then go to the ones that are not 'combinations' - work your way down and you you will truly appreciate the insight of JJW (and have conformation of the little bitty rabbits by the roadside with little bitty flashlights showing you the way back home tonight.) I realize this is a form for Buffett, however, they were buddies way back then and they seem to be comming back to their beginnings, together again. In case you did no know they have known each other for long time. This post has become too long so I will stop. There is so, so much more.

On the website it shows it available in casette only but not in the area where you purchase items. I'd email them and ask them.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.
Perhaps Henley's Texas and Buffett connections could persuade Tried & True to mint some CD's of the rest of JJW's portfolio. Too many tunes I ain't heard yet.
As far as those bellyachin about references to JJW. If it weren't for Jerry Jeff Walker there wouldn't be any Jimmy Buffett. That's a natural fact.

I think it would be easier to talk to Susan Walker than Don Henley. I know she pretty much runs things at T&T - real classy lady too.

If you can avoid Best Buy (which I know isn't always possible) I'd suggest checking with your local independent record store as they can usually special order these albums for you.
