They just announced the third release of SCTV DVDs. As taken from TVshowsonDVD.com:

Format: DVD
Catalog No.: D5D 33742
List Price: $89.98
Release Date: 03/01/05

This volume offers nine 90-minute shows from the fourth season to feed the demand for more SCTV. Broadcast on NBC in 1982, these episodes introduce new cast member Martin Short and chronicle the height of success for characters Bob & Doug. It is here where The Shmenge Brothers (John Candy and Eugene Levy) make their first appearance and the Great White North gets the "special" treatment in the "Great White North Palace" featuring Tony Bennett - an episode later nominated for a writing Emmy®. Celebrities Bill Murray and Carl Perkins join the fray and musical guests Bennett, Jimmy Buffett and Hall And Oates offer classic performances. Commentaries, interviews and other special features round out another stellar collection.

As I was a Huge SCTV fan when it was one, I can't believe that Jimmy was on this show without me having any recollection of this. Does anybody else remember this?

I used to watch SCTV pretty regularly but I don't recall Buffett being on there. Someone else does though because I'm pretty sure his appearance was the subject of a recent thread here.

Here's the thread:

Thanks Jahfin for the info.

It looks like it will be a hoot to see!

Can't wait for this to come out. Two of my favorite things, SCTV & Buffett together and I never knew it.

kinda off topic but the McKenzie brothers put out an album (yes album) at their height and I bought it back when...

anyways their song with Geddy Lee "Take Off (To the Great White North)" was on Radio Margaritaville recently. I still get a kick out of that song.

"koo looku ku ku looku loo" or something like that.

Second City Television-- the precursor to SNL. Show came out of Canada and featured people like John Candy, Dave Thomas, Martin Short and others. Sometimes comes on late nite on Nick at Nite.

Second City goes back to the 50's.

For the TV time line history:

Thanks for posting that as that was what I was thinking. I recall seeing SCTV listed in the TV Guide long before it appeared on network television. Although some SNL people came from their comedy troupe, didn't some of them also originate from National Lampoon and their spoof of Woodstock called Lemmings?

Picked it up today. It's okay. Steep price if you are not a SCTV fan.

For the fans of SCTV (purists like me) note that Led Zep refused to allow "Stairway to Heaven" on the DVD that was used in a sketch so one of the episodes run shorter.
