Anyone listening to this? When I hear these older shows, I'm reminded of how good Fingers is,and what a great feature of the CRB

Was this a Buckeye Lake show?

Hearing some of the older stuff also reminds of when Coral Reefer Band was just that, a band, rather than just "Jimmy Buffett's backing musicians". The dancers and other things that don't really have anything to do with the music don't really help either they only serve to detract from it.weirdo0521 wrote:Anyone listening to this? I couldn't agree with you more.... Listening to "livingston Saturday night", just proves how much fingers is missed. Todays band is no more that bored backing musicians....Jahfin wrote:Hearing some of the older stuff also reminds of when Coral Reefer Band was just that, a band, rather than just "Jimmy Buffett's backing musicians". Be good & you will be lonesome...............

That's why it'd be wonderful if he'd recruit the likes of Sonny Landreth, Will Kimbrough and Bill Payne to be part of his current band.jkortum wrote:I couldn't agree with you more.... In that regard, I notice a bit of apathy amongst some of Buffett's fan base such as the lack of interest in having his back catalog restored to it's rightful state by totally redoing the packaging and remastering the sound. You'd also think with the demand for live shows that there would be active tapers in the Buffett fan community but they seem virtually non-existent. That the majority seem totally content with shows taped off of Radio Margaritaville (which sound horrible) speaks volumes.

Most people at the live shows seem content with cigarette-lighters... Probably with active tapers, there would be more of chance of fire.Jahfin wrote: You'd also think with the demand for live shows that there would be active tapers in the Buffett fan community but they seem virtually non-existent.

I agree.........nothing more dissapointing than getting a concert that is burned from RM.....maybe I'm wrong but there has to be some good quality shows in circulationYou'd also think with the demand for live shows that there would be active tapers in the Buffett fan community but they seem virtually non-existent. There probably are but they all pre-date the Radio Margaritaville era.weirdo0521 wrote:I agree.........nothing more dissapointing than getting a concert that is burned from RM.....maybe I'm wrong but there has to be some good quality shows in circulationYou'd also think with the demand for live shows that there would be active tapers in the Buffett fan community but they seem virtually non-existent. I'm no expert but I have some friends that are into it. When it's allowed, mic stands are set up near the band and/or the tapers plug directly into the soundboard. Mixes of the audience and soundboard tapes (referred to as "matrix's") usually render the best sounding recordings.
That's when tapers resort to "stealth" recording. To the best of my knowledge mini-disc recorders are used though I'm sure that's not the only method. Off hand I can't think of any tapers that have gone against the wishes of a band when they are asked not to record but I do know of instances when it was ok with the band but not the venue.rednekkPH wrote:I know the Dead used to allow recording devices into the shows, but what about the great majority of acts that would not allow something like that?
There are some live recordings out there I've heard that rival officially released live recordings. That's why I've often wondered why the Buffett fan community seems totally devoid of tapers particularly given the severe lack of quality of the recordings in circulation from Radio Margaritaville.

Keep in mind though a lot of his shows are the same......
................same songs every year.......
..................maybe people just dont want to bother putting all of that work into it when they have heard every one of those songs one-thousand times..............
We are the people our parents warned us about.

While it's true that Buffett sticks to a certain rotation of songs every time he plays live he also throws in some old tunes occasionally. Maybe not enough to satisfy what everyone wants to hear but then that would probably be damn near impossible. Plus, if there was no demand for his live shows you wouldn't see the circulation of concerts that you do that originate from Radio Margaritaville or the introduction of the Live In.. series. Yes, it would be great if he mixed up his set list each night to the degree a band like the Grateful Dead did but with the high production value of Buffett's shows these days I just don't see that happening. Sure would be nice though.
