1.5 degree.....
I have met and spoken to him twice.
The first time was at the Four Seasons Hotel in Vegas, the morning of one of his shows. I was staying there and noticed his Prevost tour bus in the loading dock area. I thought he might be around so I had my eye out for him. Sure enough, he wandered up to the pool bar where I was sitting and ordered water. I asked him if that was his Prevost, and he asked how in the world I knew the brand of his bus. I told him I was in the market for one (used) and we talked buses for a minute or two. I told him I was in for the show, and was a big fan. He said he was surprised to find a fan at the Four Seasons (I think he likes it because few fans may stay there). That was about it.
The next time was at the private party at Margaritaville after the pool show at the Flamingo when he opened the place last year. He was alone on the third floor, so I went up and said "great show" and reminded him about the bus conversation at the Four Seasons. In the interim time I had purchased my bus, so we talked buses again.
My one point five connection with Jimmy.

I know Key Lime Lee.
I've met Charleston and all of the Coral Reefers except Amy Lee and Nadirah at various MOTMs or at the band members' own shows. Every one of them is a *very* nice person!
In a case of "right time, right place," the morning after the Friday Fenway show, I walked down Boylston St in Boston to see the building where my grandfather used to work (and where I used to visit as a kid). I was talking to PHAW on the phone, looked up, and almost dropped the phone. There was Jimmy, out for walk, and I had the opportunity to say hi. I asked him how it felt, as a baseball fan, to play a show in Fenway Park. He grinned and his eyes lit up like a kid's on Christmas morning: "Unbelievable!"

Let's try a couple different ones:
I've had dinner with Alan Jackson. He fishes with Jimmy.
I used to work for Pete Fisher, the Manager of the Grand Ole Opry. Pete knows Martina McBride. She recorded with Jimmy.
I've drank with Toby Keith. He records at Shrimpboat Sound.
I'm sure I can come up with a few more, just not off the top of my head.

Hey, Gulfbreeze I'm listening to Jimmy Buffett right now.
Can you see how I'm going back and forth I'm dancing with the music.
