16 or 9, I'm not quite sure. I bought SYKBH as a Jr. in high school just because my mom said she didn't like him because he sang that song about "Getting Drunk". Wore the tape out.

Didn't realize I was a Parrothead until 7 years later when I moved back to STL the day of his concert and was upset because I couldn't get anyone to go with me to the concert.

my 1st show was when i turned 30 , which puts me about 1992 ,but i listened to him before that. so late 80's early 90's would be my exact answer

I got turned into a Buffett fan by a couple of aviators when I was stationed in Korea in the 80's. Caught my first show in '90 when I got back to the world, and with the exception of a couple of years when I dated a non-JB fan, haven't missed a year.

When I was about 6 when I first heard Come Monday when it was a hit and played on the radio. It was on the AM radio in my dad's car, they played the heck out of it in the Boston area for some reason. I had no idea who Jimmy was at the time just that I liked the song...

Wow. I listened to Margaritaville and Livingston Saturday night
early and always "liked the Music"
but it wasn't untill about '88 or '90 till I went to see my first show
and I think my real slide towards the pool was when I
started to get on the 'net and met up with the BN crew..
:pirate: :pirate:
Now I am a member of the BN crew. 8)

I dont remember the first time I heard him....he was just always there.

Does it count to be a "Growing older but not up" generation even though I was '83 baby?!?

I didnt "Offically" understand the lyrics and the power of the music till I was in Jr. High.

I was introduced to Jimmy Buffett's music at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver, by a girlfriend, who was a big fan. That was probably 1977 or 78. Since that time I had always enjoyed his music, but it wasn't until my second Buffett concert in 1995 or 96, I believe it was the Banana Wind tour. I had a great time at that show. That's when I swallowed the hook. Shortly after that show, I met my current wife, she is also a Buffett fan and we have attended many shows together. I can honestly say Jimmy has enhanced the qualtiy of my life more than I can express. Life is short, there is no time not to enjoy whatever calling a person has in his or her life! Being a Parrothead is no exception!! :D

P.S. - I also consider myself a "Dead Head," Loyal Beatle's fan, Elton John is also one of my fav's, as well as "The Boss", The Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, Erik Peitsch, Bonnie Raitt, etc. etc. Not to mention, Bob Marley!! My point is, I don't think any of us "Parrotheads" limit ourselves to only JB's music. :-?

I became a fan when I was a kid in the mid 70's driving from Chicago to Colorado in the family station wagon (puke green with wood panel sides) to go on vacation. They played the hell outta "Come Monday" on the radio and it was always our favorite song.......and the same thing again, when Margaritaville was always being played on the radio, only we were going to Michigan for vacation that time. I don't ever remember not loving Jimmy but, believe it or not, I never went to a concert until 2003! I always referred to myself as the biggest Parrothead who had never seen him live.

I have no doubt but that was only part of the reason I'm not so fond of that term. What's been misconstrued as "elitism" is merely just my personal choice. Similar to how "Deadhead" took on a negative meaning to some in the late 80s following the success of "Touch of Grey", I've seen the same thing happen with "parrothead" in recent years. Lots of folks aren't so fond of the fact that they're associated with the drunken louts that sometimes populate Buffett shows these days. No, they're not in the majority but do exist. My main thing, I was fan long before that term was coined and I'm still a fan now, I just feel like I have to succumb to all the window dressing to express my fandom. I have nothing whatsoever against those that do, I think it's a big part of what makes Buffett concerts what they are but it also doesn't make me any less of a fan if I don't follow their lead. To each their own...

Okay, I'm "Growing older..." but I think I deserve a little credit since I was born in November of 1979, I didn't really have enough time in the '70s to become a Buffett fan.
Around 1985 my dad bought a 30' Bertram. For a five year old it was the biggest, coolest boat ever. It had a tape deck, for crying our loud! To augment said tape deck my dad promptly went out and bought two new tapes for our first trip out on the boat, both of which still bring back fond memories of the days on the Enterprise (no he's not a Trekkie, he's an entrepreneur). One was Sports by Huey Lewis & the News (I don't think you were allowed to own a tape deck in the mid-'80s without this tape) and the other was Last Mango in Paris, the new one by this blond mustachioed guy named Jimmy Buffett. I was hooked from the fist note of Everybody's On the Run, and it wasn't long before I got my hands on more.
During the Jimmy's Jump Up tour (1990, I think) I attended my first concert ever in Hilton Head, SC, after begging my parents for a ticket (I believe the argument I used was, "but Mom, I'm the one who listens to Jimmy Buffett all the time, not you!"). Needless to say I'm still hooked after 20 years.
I may have only been a fan since the '80s, but I've been listening for a full 80% of my life.
