I was at that Carowinds show as well. Jimmy came on stage with a megaphone to explain that the power was off, but when it came back on he was going to play a kick %^ show.

First time I ever heard Coast of Marsailles live. I miss those Carowinds shows, tearing up stuffed animals won at the park, etc.

And that he did. Trips to the restroom were also made a bit interesting due to the power outage. p***' in the wind is one thang, factor in no light and it adds a whole new twist to the situation. Couldn't beat the Carowinds price back then either. I think the show was only around 6 or 7 bucks which was tacked onto the Carowinds admission cost.

I think that was part of a tour that I saw in Miami that year. It was at the Knight Center. The show started with a phone ringing in a phone booth on stage. A guy who was sweeping up on stage answered the phone and you could hear somebody asking for Jimmy. "uh, he's not here." Besides the phone booth on stage the other big feature that night was a full moon behind the band that moved across the sky during the show. Timothy B. Schmidt was playing bass and even sang "I Can't Tell You Why". I'm not sure if Jimmy was drinking heavily at the time, but I remember thinking, "Man, this is a really sloppy show." I had seen Warren Zevon a week or so earlier and after the Buffet show I thought, "Zevon's drunk rock and roll act was much better than Buffet's drunk rock and roll act." Now Warren's gone and Jimmy's sobered up.

Found my old ticket stub dated Thursday, Feb 5th, 1981 at the Sunrise Musical Theater in Ft. Liquordale....Here's what I remember. My buddy and I bought tickets late and all they had left were Obstructed seats. He said the sound equipment would be blocking our view, we said who cares. Front row seats, Section 1, Seat 104!!! We were in...Got to the show and guess what, it’s Jimmy doing an acoustic set (no additional sound equipment on the stage) - percussion set and another guitar player, that was it! Very cool....Shook his hand as he walked off the stage....

I drove one of the limousines for that show in Seattle. Still have my "staff" backstage pass. Don't really remember the show though.

From some of the recorded shows, I think Jimmy started off with a solo acoustic version of CILCIA at some shows. Reminds me of the show last year.

Could it have been at the now-defunct "Circle Star Theater" in Redwood City? Saw him there, but it might have been in the late 70's.

In the late 70's the Cirlce Star theater was the concert venue for everything but the big "Days on the Green".

The San Jose Center for the Performing Art was new and this was one of the earlier concerts. I do remember it was a Sat night in August and the description of the stage with the phone booth and the moving moon stirs the memory. It could have been a basically accoustic concert with a small Coral Refer contingent. I can remeber who I saw at the concert and where I sat but not much of the set list. Are there any old sets list for this time period?

I saw him twice in 80 but was out of the country in 81. All I rememeber about the the shows in 80 was that he dedicated Volcano to Mount St Helens.
