Mob scene mayhem

Found out 10pm last night Jesse was coming to sing at a mall near me today at noon... thought, "hey, that sounds like fun!"

Parents are completely INSANE! So are teenage girls, but that's excusable.

We arrive at 10am, and a large crowd is already gathered - some arriving before 7am... so we stand in the back, with our kids 10, 8, 6, and 4. They powwow on the floor, looking at whatever today's equivalent to "Teen Beat" magazines are, and the moms form a "protective" circle around them.

For the next hour, people continue filtering in past us, trying to push to the front, even though the crowd is already shoulder to shoulder, and front to back, and the organizers on the stage continue telling everyone to BACK UP. We finally get fed up, and start telling people "no - they can't squeeze through... there's no more room." Most just give us dirty looks, but one lady shoves me, and tells me to move out of the way! :o I'm like, "move where, there's no where to go?" And she shoves me again! :o :x The keets were in front of me, and she's pushing me forward, and I'm doing all I can not to tumble over them! I was IRATE! She gets past me, then tells me to let her teenage kids past! I'm like "real nice, we've been here since 10, you walk in at 11:15, and you're gonna stand right in front of these little kids?" And she said, "too bad, isn't it?" And I backed down, trying to avoid a scene, and an appearance in the local papers. The daughters were just like, "we can stay back here", but she reached behind me, grabbed their arms, and pulled them through! NICE! Nice example!

Shortly after, after everyone was told to back up 10 feet, since people kept pushing forward past people that had been there for hours, we went to the entrance WAY BACK (similar to the lawn away), where we could move around and breathe again.

Noon - no Jesse, just telling people to move back. 12:15 no Jesse, and my kids want to go home, can't take it anymore. I ask em to just wait a couple minutes - we had come too far to not see or hear him, and we have to leave by 1 for a bday party anyway. 12:30 no Jesse - "good news and bad news - Jesse's gonna come out soon, but everyone has to move back." By this time, the WAY BACK is no longer roomy - it's hot and stuffy - preteen and teenage girls are coming out of the crowd crying, and / or fainting, and needing fresh air out the doors we're by. 12:45, Jesse finally comes on stage. Lots of screaming, lots of people leaving - after his 2nd song, my youngest keet is DONE - time to go.

Well, he only played 1 more song after we left - Beautiful Soul - so we didn't miss much. On the way out, security was holding 2 h.s. girls back from eachother, screaming and cussing. Another security tending to a preteen laid out on the floor overwhelmed. Another friend I saw, whose daughter saw my incident and said "mom, JoAnn needs help" in a frightened voice, told me she actually got kicked and hit by a lady for not letting her through, and her friend shoved into a wall. :-? All this, for 10 minutes of Jesse.

I seriously can count on 1 hand the times in my life I've been p*** off - the last was in 1995 actually. Time before that, the mid-80's. When it happens, people who know me go :o :o :o . When I calm down, we laugh. It's so uncomfortable for me, I feel my blood boil and I get all shaky - I hate when it happens. I can't believe I was pushed that far at an event that was supposed to be for kids. :-? I expect to read of injuries sustained by numerous people.

Hubby was just shocked that a) someone could shove me as I'm not exactly petite, and b) I backed down and let her by me! Oh well.

Sorry - I had to vent! Ya'll can bill me for the counseling session!

JoAnn, I am so sorry you went thru all that, but I can't say I am even the slightest bit surprised. Those mall shows are bad news...the "performer" never shows up on time and people end up getting hurt. I'm surprised that malls insurance companies even allow those performances anymore...way too much liability.

I've also never understood the concept of entitlement some people have simply because they have children. That happens at the aquarium all the time. I get there early to see the otter feedings so I can get some good pics, and folks show up at the last minute and try to shove their kids in front. I used to let them, now I tell them they can show up early like everyone else. If someone else has been waiting a long time with me and they have kids I gladly let the kids go in front...but not the ones who show up at the last minute. It's time those folks learn courtesy and decency, so their kids may have a prayer of learning it too.

Glad you all made it out okay.

it's the same as the idiots who bull ahead on the freeway; or figure that even tho they are 2 car lengths back from the intersection when the turn arrow goes out, that they are entitled to head on thru and inconvenience everyone else.

Short of pulling them to the side of the road, and clubbing them to unconciousness when it happens, they are not going to learn.

I think you showed an awsome amount of restraint. But I think you should have punched her clock for her. I know not cool. Still.........

Sorry you had to endure that, Tiki.

I'm with Don, you shoulda dropped her. Don't look at it as setting a bad example for the kids - see it as a lesson on the consequences of acting like an a$$.

I have to disagree with you there Don and Frank. If she had punched the lady and ended up being arrested and taken off in front of the kids it would have been extremely tramatic for them and lasted much longer than the memory of the concert as it is now.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

I took it more as a joke - like how I should have given her what she deserved - but knowing in reality, it wasn't an option.

I'd rather have memories of a parent getting busted for standing up for themselves, than memories of them allowing themselves to be pushed around.

Please note, this is just my opinion, and I am in no way saying that Tiki was showing any kind of weakness with the course of action she chose. Tiki - you did what you felt was best for you and your kids...and there ain't nothin' wrong with that

So you're saying I'm worthless and weak, eh?

Well, the event did illicet my oldest keet to get up off the ground, give me a hug, and say "I'm glad you're my mom", and the youngest said "ya - you're the best mom ever." So I've got that going for me, which is nice! :D

I think you did the right thing. As much as it totally sucks (physically, emotionally, and egotistitcally) to get shoved like that...keeping your cool with the kids is the most commendable. :D
