Betty, I talk to Syd all the time, you're not crazy. He probably realizes something is wrong and that you are trying to help him. Does it seem like the oil is out of his fur? I know it takes several washings for the wildlife, but they are usually covered in oil, so you probably have done a good job in getting it out. Just keep babying him, and call the vet first thing. Hang in there, Betty.

Wow... That really sucks. I wish I had some advice. If talkin' to your pets makes you crazy, then I guess I'm borderline insane. I talk to our two cats all the time. It's actually kinda funny. When we first got them they would totally ignore us. Now, they actually know their names, come when you call them and even seem to know what some words mean.

All seems better in Henry's world .... a lot of the oil is gone, and he has a good appetite. I think he really washed a lot last night, but he is not sick. I trimmed a lot of the matted fur off, and I think he'll be ok.
All that oil was draining out JP's Porsche, which has been sitting in the garage since November. I can't bring myself to drive it, so this week it will be towed to the mechanic that JP always used, get tuned up, and then I'm selling it. Anyone in the market for an '84 Porsche Carerra?

Hi, Betty-
That's great that Henry is doing better. I'm sure with all the T.L.C. you give him, he'll be back to his old self in no time. You know what an animal/pet lover I am. Please keep updating us (or ME, anyway) as to his progress, but it sounds like he'll be fine.

I wish I could by the Porsche from you, but if I did, I'd have to LIVE in the thing. I'll bet you don't have any problem selling it.

First and foremost I am MOST GLAD to here that all is well in Henry's world!! and I would say call the emergency # for the vet or any vet and be blotting off all that you can while calling. Dawn and I would think warm water, is no doubt the best you can use and do in that situation! You did good. Might take multiple applications and rinses. I dunno about cats as they are quite different from waterfowl and crude oil... but calling the vet or pehaps the Humane Society or maybe even the poison control center.( PCC has a toll free number at least here and I am pretty sure they are nation wide).
In the meanwhile you could Google for information or try www.dogpile.com or whatever your favorite search engine is for information on what to do in such situation though often the best information is often to call a vet or the Humane Society or Audobon for immediate advice and care.
You have the greatest resource of information at your fingertips while online and go do some research and be as prepared as you can for any events in the future involing Henry or anyother animal or keet even.

I always talk to animals as if they were people, I am a member of PETA...People Eat Tasty Animals... >>>>not the other group that supports "Rights For Rats" or buying billboards of Dennis Rodman nude.

Some animals do understand what you are saying or menaing and your tone of voice ........... such as soothing and calming voice or loud and angry shouting. Okies, go ahead and call me crazy all you like I will admit to being crazy, after all I have always been crazy and it has kept me from going insane! I talk to every animal I have ever owned, well accept for cats..one does not own cats...cats own the person! But I talked to the cats anyway.

There is a program going on that people take animals into nursing homes and the animals are most theraputic to the people that must live in one.
People that have been mostly forgotten about or that family no longer has time or the capabilities to care for. Some have no family at all! Perhaps you could find out about one of these orgs or take Henry on your own and sit with them and let them hold Henry and pet him for alittle while and brighten their day. That is if Henry is that sort of cat that likes to be held. Sometimes pets DO react differently around the people and understand that the person is fragile and needs to be treated carefully....
sometimes......

Okies for the Porshe Carrera....I will offer $00.25 That is one quarter on it. 8)

Glad to hear the Henry's ordeal is over....poor kitty.

I talk to my dogs all the time.....sometimes in a very angry voice...my puppy is beginning to think his name is little fu**er.....

Seriously, my dogs are a huge part of my life.....I worry when they're sick, I laugh when they're happy....and we talk every morning over a cup of coffee.....they're a little slow to answer, but getting the hang of it.

I'm glad to hear that Henry is doing better. Please keep an eye on him since the effects of the oil may take a little while to become obvious.

As for being crazy for talking to your pets, well, I talk to my dogs and cats all the time and they talk back. It's a pity I don't understand what they are say.

Glad to hear that Henry is feeling fine...I would have panicked too...and no, you are not crazy...there are many times that I would rather talk to my "boys" than to another person...if it makes you feeel any better, my coworkers think I am nuts because I went in late today, my husband came home early, and for the 2 hours that we couldn't be home, both "grandmas" came to babysit Sambca (our lab) since he has been pretty sick the past few days...it's another one of those things where you either get it or you don't...hugs to Henry

After a good start this morning, we went to the vet . She told me to get the non-petroleum hand cleaner from an auto shop. So ... here we go again. Lathered up Henry's nether parts with the cleaner and then rewashed him up once again with Dawn, and lots of clear water.
This poor kitty is so compliant, and that's unlike him. He knows that we're trying to help him. I have him all wrapped up again in blankets ... I know he's too old to go through another laundry again, so pray that he gets over this trauma.
This has to be the WORST Valentine's Day I've ever been through.
Feeling sorry for myself ... Betty.

Betty-
Anyone that would love their pet 1/10 as much as I love my dogs has GOT to be feeling low.
So, if it helps, here's ANOTHER one from me.
