I personally do not feel that he should be labeled the next Jimmy Buffett although I have no problem at all with him being inspired by Jimmy since I am too.
I also don't think there has to be another Jimmy Buffett.
There are artists that make music very similar to Jimmy and that's great since I love island music.
The more island music the better is my philosophy on this. I've had alternatives to Jimmy well before Kenny got island fever, but I'm all for him getting into it even if Jimmy was part of the inspiration, big deal.

When Jimmy retires or dies within the next 10-20 years do you want there to be no "Buffettesque" or "islandesque" music being made?

Shrimper John wrote:No disrespect taken. But Kenny was migrating toward the beach music before he bought property in the Virgin Islands. It just appears to me that he is trying to change his image mid-career. I hate seeing people use country music to make their name and then change once they are known.
umm... i just signed up and don't want to cause any problems but i just want to say that i don't think kenny is trying to change his image just to gain popularity. i think that throughout life everyone is searching for who they really are - and i think kenny truly found himself when he discovered his love for the islands. when he first started he was very different and i don't think he was anywhere near as comfortable in his abilities and talents that he is now since he's found what really makes him happy. i don't think he's trying to steal buffett's thunder... i just think he's finally producing the type of music that makes him happy.

NOW KENNY, HE WOUD LAUGH AT ALL THIS NONSENSE... HE DOES WHAT HE DOES FOR THE LOVE OF MUSIC AND THE FANS... AND PERSONALLY I THINK HE DOES IT BETTER THAN BUFFETT!!

I personally like the sound of Kenny's last few albums, which that island tinge to them. I would be like saying Jack Johnson is a rip-off. This people just like the tropical lifestyle as much as JB and can you blame them? If I could live in paradise all year round I would be inspired to write island music as well. So lets give poor Kenny a break. It was nice to see that he wrote the whole album on his own, maybe that just shows how much he loves the tropical feel too. We don't go around calling Jimmy a Harry Belafonte rip-off, so lets not call Kenny a Jimmy rip-off.

 To all the KC haters....

"I think the world needs a couple drinks!" as Teri Clark would sing!!!!
Kenny just happened to find the Islands at a time in his life when he needed to get away and let go. He is not trying to be Buffett, he is trying to be the Kenny that he found while experiencing the Islands, and now he is sharing that with his fans. His FANS, ya know, the ones who get what he is sharing?!? Yep, it really does take a special person!!!! 8)

I never cared about learning guitar, boating, and some other things until I got into Jimmy's music but that does not make me a wanna be, just inspired. And I have no problem at all with Kenny being inspired by Jimmy since I was/am too. I also don't think that there has to be another Jimmy Buffett.

btw
Kenny was on the title track of Jimmy's latest cd, Jimmy appeared on Kenny's tour, and some guy named Robert Greenidge (look him up) plays on Kenny's cd.
I can't believe they'd associate with that wanna be.....

AMEN well said sonofabeach!!!

JB and KC arent in competition. Why are some of the fans attempting to create a division.?
Respect for all!

I wish everyone would leave Kenny alone. Yes, he is a country singer with a tropical influence. If I recall correctly Jimmy used to be a "country singer". And no, Jimmy is not the first to combine country with tropical music. I believe that title would go to Jimmie Rodgers (1897-1933). In 1929 he recorded "Everybody Does It In Hawaii". Next comes Hank Snow, which Jimmy mentions in "The Wino and I Know" In 1951 he recorded "Rhumba Boogie", and in 1954 "That Crazy Mambo Thing". After this comes Marty Robbins whose song "White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation" sounds really familiar to the name of a Buffett album. If these guys had a copyright on "tropical island" music there would be no Jimmy as we know him! I'm sure someone somewhere thought Jimmy was a rip-off of these guys. So if you don't like Kenny, just don't listen to him. This is the greatest country in the world, that gave you the freedom whether or not to listen to Kenny Chesney. The choice is yours... Just stop the complaining

[quote="Touch O Parrotdise"]i doubt if aerosmith ever new if jamie had a gun or if ac/dc ever took the highway to hell.. [quote] I think thats the funniest line I've read on here in a long time. I had people asking me in my house what the hell I was laughing at. Kinda reminds me about how p*** I get when people try to be astronauts. Like anyone has really seen that Beach House on the Moon well enough to write a song about it. I mean gimme a friggen break. Neil Armstrong is his own man, dang it.

I don't think any disrespect was meant.

You're absolutly right on that one...He RENTED for MANY YEARS before finially decided to buy his own place. However, he didn't start singing or writing tropical songs until AFTER he discoverd the "Island Life" for himself.
