Need some phin power, please

Post by CUparrot »

As some of you may know (or not) I am pregnant. Well, my due date (March 3) is two weeks from today, so the countdown has really begun. Needless to say, I'm a little nervous....about giving birth, taking care of a newborn, and generally being responsible for another human life for the next 18+ years.

So please send some phin power my way for a good labor and delivery, healthy baby, etc. I could really use it!

Thanks! :D

Also, if there are any veteran parents out there who wish to offer any words of wisdom, feel free. I need all the help I can get!

Well, I'd suggest the PSA thread, but it's too late for that, so here comes..

While I have never given birth - I have raised two boys to manhood and they are fairly well adjusted men :P (well except for not being a PH - went wrong there somewhere  ). My advice.......go with your instincts and just give your child LOTS of love!! I can give you much more advice when he/she gets older :D

I hope and am sending phin power that the end of your pregnancy is a smooth one. Enjoy the little girl or boy 'cuz they REALLY do grow quickly!!!!

Yeah, I saw the PSA thread. It did make me rethink my decision, but as you said, it's too late for that!

Of course, *my* little angel will never act that way! (Yeah, right....)

Awww.....what a wonderful and exciting time for you...and yep, scary, too! I remember wondering what would happen if my daughter was born and I didn't like her......weird thoughts like that. Here we are twelve years later (wow)....and it just continues to get more amazing!

I'll be holding good thoughts for a safe and easy delivery......and of course, a beautiful, healthy little 'keet~!

It is a life changing event and I must say 99.9997% of the time I would not have changed one second of it. I wanted nothing to do with kids and now I don't know what I would be without them. Nervous, sure you are. But you'll be great. Just remember, from here on out.......

-Everything you know is wrong
-Everything you did, you don't
-You will learn to treasure quiet (if you have more than one, especially)
-And things you thought you couldn't possibly handle will be no problem, because, its your kid. i.e. poopy stuff, vomit etc.
-Everytime they get hurt, you will hurt more, because that is what we do

Oh how I remember this time!!! I wish you the easiest of labor and delivery and a beautiful healthy baby. Have you had the burst of energy yet??

My advice as a veteran parent is to listen to all the advice given you and then follow your heart. There will be no one suggestion or piece of advice that is 100% correct as each and every baby is different however each piece of advice can be useful. I know several times I incorporated portions of advice from different people into my course of care for my infant. If you ever have any need for advice please feel free to pm me.

 Not yet. I'm not sleeping very well these days (as I'm sure you can figure) so I'm mostly just tired all the time.

Thanks to everyone for the phin power and thoughts so far. It is very encouraging for me to hear other's keet-raising experiences.

I have seen this man beam when talking about his kids. There is no doubt in my mind that this statement is 100% true and that he is the best possible father that he could be and a person fathers should model themselves after!!!

Oh Sweetie!!!! You and your future-munchkin will be just fine!

I won't bore you with all the details of my own birth experiences and child rearing because this is ALL ABOUT YOU and the new life you will be bringing into this world.

You'll be amazed at the sudden strengths you find in yourself....in fact, you will discover so much about yourself and your values in the next few weeks, months, and years. There's commercials on TV right now for http://www.baby.com and their slogan is "A Baby Changes Everything"...and they couldn't be more right!

It's absolutely wonderful to hold your child for the first time. There's nothing like it in the whole world. All of the things that you know are coming, such as the pain from labor and delivery (even with drugs, you feel like you've been hit by a Mack truck for about 6 weeks), sleep deprivation, et. al. will seem so insignificant next to this 'lil guy who loves you simply because you are there. :D

Good luck to you and your family to be.

My quick advice is not to listen to everyone's birthing horror stories. I am sure you are prepared and the "First Look" at your newborn is a very special monent.

My input would be that...

It's scary, but yours may not be.

It's painful, but yours may not be.

It's wonderful, and yours will probably be.

Some folks like 'babies'.. some love it when they're more toddlers...

Just do what feels best for you. And much good luck on a easy delivery and healthy child. That's all that matters in the end. :)

CU, honey, you are going to do just great! Ask for what you need in your labour care, don't be afraid that you're inconveniencing anyone. This is the most worthwhile pursuit you will ever undertake. Motherhood comes as close to "real" as anything ever could.

Just think . . . soon this will be you. Breathe. Believe in yourself. Prepare to be amazed.
