Keep the balls on the ground? Obviously written by a woman. No way in hell I'm puttin my balls on the ground when Jimmy hits the stage, someone might step on em. But I agree, no one should be hittin Jimmy and Michael in the face with their balls, that's just gross

I know that the horns have sustained thousand (yes) of dollars worth of damge from Beach Balls over the years - I think they are fine in the audience to a point, but often they seem to be the focus of the show...

One year I did that for the show at Tinley in Chicago, but it turned out to be a huge mess with temps in the 90's.

I, do agree with Jimmy, the beach balls are a nuisance, especially when you get hit in the head by one unexpectedly.
How cute is that! I want to sit near you... I LOVE Junior Mints. And your name is Minty, too!   I want a box of junior mints for my new parrothead hat... Oops, Time to run to JAX!

In 2003 and 2004 I was lucky to be in the first couple of rows and when Jimmy hits the stage they drop about 30 beach balls from the ceiling. If he is so upset about beach ball why does he drop more when the show starts?

Last year at Cincy, there was a HUGE beach ball being batted around. When it got to the stage, JB kicked it off the stage, someone with the crew grabbed it and stuck a pocket knife in it...it was shown on the big screens.
People booed

they have the horns on stands when they are not playing them - and the beach balls knock them over, and the mechanical workings are pretty delicate and temperamental

It doesn't take much to knock a key out of alignment, being knocked to or dropped on the floor can be catastrophic....speaking from experience. Not to mention the ick that is on the beachballs certainly isn't good for any part of any instrument, especially those with a mouthpiece. :o :-?

A lit cigarette always seems to help alleviate the too many beach balls thing. Hell, I can recall when Buffett would admonish the audience when people would throw inflatable sharks on stage. It's all fun 'til someone loses a fin.

Last year at Alpine or Chicago (I forget which-I believe it was Chicago) some idiot in the front row threw a bunch of loose beads on the stage, hitting Jimmy right in the eye. He had NO problem letting his disgust be known, and told the a-hole to knock it off.

Same thing with the beach balls. They're getting BEYOND ridiculous. Any that comes my way, I'll be sure to deflate and tear up. I'm there to see JIMMY, not a bunch of drunks flailing at a bunch of beach balls to earn their 15 seconds of fame.

"The Man" put it in perspective for us at MOTM. He asked for a volunteer
to stand with their mouth 2 inches from a microphone while he gave it
a shot with a hard-thrown beach ball. He had just come from the dentist
and wasn't anxious to go right back. I'd never thought about the "danger
from microphone to teeth" connection until then... I'd prefer the balls
stopped when the music started, myself.

How about just "Proper Ball Etiquette?"

 Nobody better hurt our Amy's sax! I agree, the beach balls are a problem, and when something is a problem, it must be eliminated. NO MORE BALLS AT THE CONCERTS!!! At the "Far Side of the World" concert, I took a couple of beach balls printed like a globe to the concert (before Jimmy hit the stage). Now I realize how they can cause damage and I am properly ashamed and enlightened. :o ohmigosh maybe that's why Jimmy didn't come back to Nashville!!!!! aaaaggggghhhhhh!!!! :( :o

Jeez, it's just a freakin' beach ball people! If the idiots out there hittin' 'em around would just refrain from knocking them into Jimmy and the Reefers, then there wouldn't be a problem. He seemed to have fun kicking them back into the audience in Columbia.

What's next? Telling everyone to remain seated during the show or worrying about putting out someones eye with your hand during "Fins"?
