Does anyone remember like a year or 2 ago Jimmy was on the cover of men's journal, and Jack was in the same issue. I see a connection here.

I have that issue.

Jack's web site or a fan site, back then, had lots of live stuff to download and listen to...Rodeo Clowns, Times Like These, The News, Fall Line Medley, Posters, Inaudible Melodies (our local KTXN plays this all the time,) Football, Pirate Looks at Forty, Flake, and Frankie and Albert.

Jack Johnson has covered APL@40 and it is on his "September Sessions" CD, and in the surf video of the same name.

I've even heard it on a local radio station here in San Diego

a couple of songs from JJ's new disc are getting some radio playtime now. It'll be out soon. I definitely encourage you all to check him out if you haven't.

btw I was waiting for someone to slam Kenny.
Again, why does it have to be a competition?
Me, I feel no need to do that, especially if what they're doing is positive and sounds good.
The more island music the better.
To compare to JB....

Kenny Chesney is trying to write Songs You Know By Heart over and over again.

Jack Johnson just stumbled in from climbing the Volcano.

JB somehow manages to straddle the line between articulate metaphor and silly cliche without losing fans of either writing style. The above two artists are definitely in one camp or the other.

I found JJ over a year go, Buffett many years before that. They don't sound the same to me or write the same but I love both. I will never love another artist like Buffett but I do enjoy JJ's albums. I bought two this year and really enjoy listening to them.

I really think you should first, download the Jack Johnson song (legally of course...), and then download a Jack Johnson cover "A Pirate Looks at 40".

If any of you want these you can always get in contact with me!

YEEEEEAH JIMMY! Way to appeal to a younger crowd and cover a Jack Johnson song!!! Maybe this is a sign of things to come! Well done!

I still wanna see Jimmy and Dave Matthews! :D
Jimmy and dave would be awesome.

While I like a couple of Jack's songs I'm finding it hard to find any island sounding music by him. Musically sure, but lyrical content, no.
Just living in Hawaii is not good enough for me to think he's a "Buffettesque" entertainer
I also think it's possible to be too laid back which seems to be the case with most of his songs I've heard.
But don't get me wrong I do like his music and vibe

I saw Jack Johnson on Letterman about a year ago, maybe a little longer, and he did "The Horizon Has Been Defeated". I saw Jimmy do it in both JAX and Tampa and I like his version better. There's laid back and there's comatose. Jimmy is laid back. Jack looked, and sounded, comatose when he was on Letterman.

JJ is not buffett-like. More like Buffettesque. Just coming from a laid back beach lifestyle. It's not that they sound the same. Just that they put me in a similar frame of mind. I would put either on while I'm sitting on my deck sipping a boat drink getting some sun. But if I want some energy to clean the house by I would put on JB's upbeat stuff, not so much JJ.

I've heard a lot of people call Cowboy Junkies slow and comatose, too. Maybe I'm just moving slower than the rest of the world because both blow my mind. :)

This a lot more fun than talking about Jimmy doing a Little Feat cover!!!!

You can catch Jack Johnson at Jazzfest 2005

http://www.nojazzfest.com/schedule/index04.html

...and that handsome James Taylor as well. Lots of great entertainment. I've never been to Jazzfest.

I think Jimmy did an awesome job with the JJ song... and I loved the surf videos (For those who don't know JJ, he is a professional surfer and a lot of his albums are soundtracks to his surf videos... see also Donovan Frankenthaller and G. Love). I saw Jack at Bonnaroo two years ago and it was really good.. he had some chick on stage that was hula hooping and playing the violin...

I'm enjoying the new cd that came out Tuesday. More on par with Brushfire Fairytales. Between that, the new Kings of Leon, and finally getting the Libertines last cd, I have a full i-Pod to play with on my next day off!!!

yea i got an advanced copy of that JJ cd... it's really good... the Libertines on the other hand... marginal... (mostly because they are overrated and their fans are too emo)
