Jimmy Buffett discussion

Most of the new bands I dig are under that Emo umbrella. The indie sound is the only interesting thing left in music these days...Wencherina wrote:yea i got an advanced copy of that JJ cd... it's really good... the Libertines on the other hand... marginal... (mostly because they are overrated and their fans are too emo)cowboyjunkie wrote:I'm enjoying the new cd that came out Tuesday. More on par with Brushfire Fairytales. Between that, the new Kings of Leon, and finally getting the Libertines last cd, I have a full i-Pod to play with on my next day off!!!Wencherina wrote:I think Jimmy did an awesome job with the JJ song... and I loved the surf videos (For those who don't know JJ, he is a professional surfer and a lot of his albums are soundtracks to his surf videos... see also Donovan Frankenthaller and G. Love). I saw Jack at Bonnaroo two years ago and it was really good.. he had some chick on stage that was hula hooping and playing the violin...
If you like the Cowboy Junkies you'd probably also like a lot of stuff that falls under the alt.country/roots-rock banner as well. Not all of it is as slow as the Junkies but there's a whole sub-section of the genre that is definitely Gothic: Blanche, Johnny Dowd, Trailer Bride, etc.cowboyjunkie wrote:Most of the new bands I dig are under that Emo umbrella. I also forgot to mention the Handsome Family. Honestly a lot of the darker stuff (aside from Trailer Bride) isn't really my cup of tea but I do like some of it. There's also the more lighthearted side of alt.country that I'm sure you'd like especially since you're a Buffett fan.cowboyjunkie wrote:Thanks! Thanks,
Found a site that has a copy of the song available via streaming audio.I would love to hear Jimmy's version as well. Anyone have a link?
He is awesome! That basically sums it up. He is a very mellow singer who is pretty popular amongst us college kids. But he is also very popular against the not-so-young crowd. I highly recommend you check out some of his stuff or download some songs at ITunes.IsleReef wrote:I'm too lazy............... Who is Jack Johnson?
