I'm enjoying the new cd that came out Tuesday. More on par with Brushfire Fairytales. Between that, the new Kings of Leon, and finally getting the Libertines last cd, I have a full i-Pod to play with on my next day off!!!
yea i got an advanced copy of that JJ cd... it's really good... the Libertines on the other hand... marginal... (mostly because they are overrated and their fans are too emo)
Most of the new bands I dig are under that Emo umbrella. The indie sound is the only interesting thing left in music these days...

If you like the Cowboy Junkies you'd probably also like a lot of stuff that falls under the alt.country/roots-rock banner as well. Not all of it is as slow as the Junkies but there's a whole sub-section of the genre that is definitely Gothic: Blanche, Johnny Dowd, Trailer Bride, etc.

Wow! Very few people know who they are. Very cool.

I've known Margo and company for years and they are the nicest people on earth. Becoming friends with my musical heroes has been the highlight of my life. Every year, I fly somewhere new and travel from show to show for a week. Great excuse to see America and visit legendary venues. :)

Shoot me an email if you want some live shows. I have about 100 shows from as far back as 89. Since they encourage taping, the shows are almost studio release quality.

I also forgot to mention the Handsome Family. Honestly a lot of the darker stuff (aside from Trailer Bride) isn't really my cup of tea but I do like some of it. There's also the more lighthearted side of alt.country that I'm sure you'd like especially since you're a Buffett fan.

here's jimmy buffett's cover of "horizon has been defeated" from his show last night in SC. quality is what it is... recorded from radiomargaritaville.com live broadcast.

"jack johnson's a pretty cool guy... we'll send this out to jack on radio margaritaville tonight..." - buffett
pgr17....any chance you could post the song again or send me a copy? Just got hooked on Jack Johnson and found his PLA40 on itunes. Would love to hear Buffett's spin on "Horizon".

Thanks,

I have dug Jack Johnson since I first heard that song ... :)

I still dig it now that Jimmy has sung it.
Though I knew more words than he did at Tampa, and I'd been drinking...

MP3 Link?

Hey CowboyJunky, very cool. I love the Cowboy Junkies as well as Jack Johnson, and the Libertines who I'll miss since I guess they are fried. It's interesting that diverse people can like the same quirky music. Oddly enough I have two 17yo sons who like the cowboy junkies and jack johnson but really really don't like the Libertines. I think it's the association with emo that does it for them.[/quote]

He is awesome! That basically sums it up. He is a very mellow singer who is pretty popular amongst us college kids. But he is also very popular against the not-so-young crowd. I highly recommend you check out some of his stuff or download some songs at ITunes.

Just downloaded his verious of PLAF and I LOVE it... very good stuff...

It only took three years from my first Jack post where there was only one response http://www.buffettnews.com/forum/viewto ... highlight= to now this... a 3 page J.J. thread. That's GREAT! I have been lucky to catch him many times over the years. I was even lucky enough to see him perform in Santa Barbara years ago where he went to college. I know I've posted it several times before but if you haven't checked out Donavon Frankenreiter yet you're missing out. Ex-pro surfer turned musician and a good friend of Jack's. He's very similar to Jack but with a little more funk. He's very connected to the 70's.
