Alternate photos from album shoots

Did anyone who watched the CMT/60 Mintues special catch the alternate unused photos from the OPH photo shoot (from the Mel Gibson movie set)? I think there were two cool photos of Jimmy looking at that neat ship from his small motar boat that were obviously from that session.

Where have they been hiding those photos for all these years? Does anyone know where I can see these photos or have any stills from the special? I know some additonal album photos were released in the box set in 1992, but I crave more! Were are they hiding them?

There were some shadamn photos on that interview.......very cool.

Do you remember that old photo from the Mens Journal article?..............

But you see, I don't have those photos, and I really want them! (not the original negatives, e-images will do fine!). They would be a great thing for a CD re-release (yes, I did say the "R" word!).

I've seen even more photos from this photo shoot (same as the one on the Ballads disk) on bootleg covers. There's got to be a way to get to them.

I actually have been collecting, fixing and re-sizing images and text, trying to create what could have happened had MCA bothered with packaging adaptations from those old albums. It's crazy how many ways it could be done for each album, without omiting anything.

It seems you've done a lot of the front work for MCA to re-release these, Parrot Monkey. Perhaps MCA should just hire you so we can get this done.

My CD collecting has now stalled at that critical turning point when there was no longer anything behind door number 3.

There's more at stake here than just restoring the artwork to it's original condition, what really needs fixing is the sound quality of the original ABC/Dunhill releases and a great deal of the albums after that leading up to when vinyl was no longer available and the inferior sounding CD format took over.

I think a lot of folks would. Considering the number of artists that have already remastered their back catalogs I think it's only a matter of time before Buffett does the same, no matter the legal hurdles or supposed lack of interest shown by some on this site.

When I say “restore the albums back to what they were in the vinyl era”, on CD, this covers both the sonic quality of the sound and the completeness of the packaging adaptation.

I guess the “mastering” on some titles are worse than others, but it really jumps out at you when you listen to one at a significant volume after a remastered disk by another artiest was in the player.

I just picked up Dylan’s Highway 61 Revisted and Blonde on Blonde on Hybrid SACDs. Although I don’t have a SACD player, I was blown away by the quality of the regular remaster on the standard CD layer. If I thought that was good, I really wonder what the SACD layer is like.

Anyway, after listening to one of those titles (which also have complete package replications of the record, plus additional photos) and then an old Buffett album, it just makes you want to scream out and demand the same for his catalogue. I know SACDs will probably only happen to SYKBH if it ever happened to anything Buffett, but regular remasters will do for me.

Quiet and Shy, to my understanding, you boycotted MCA’s Compact Disc/Price/Crap CDs, correct? Even I had to go out and collect all of those disks, as I was so anxious to own the many songs I had been listening to on the Buffett Buffet on RM. I really respect that you didn’t buy any. Also, don’t let anyone fool you into thinking that the You Had To Be There or Floridays releases are any better. You Had to Be There’s volume is mastered rather low and missing 12 photographs form the ABC/Dunhill release. Floridays is missing about 85% of its liner notes as well as a single photo. Just because the CDCP moniker isn’t there means nothing. Also, Hot Water, although it includes lyrics in the insert (which the LP does not have), it’s missing a photo from the LP’s back cover. A “no having cake and eating it” situation, which is really odd for album releases.

I agree totally with remastering the audio on some of these CDs. You can almost hear the money saved by a CEO when you listen. I would LOVE to see the early stuff remastered.

Parrot Monkey...I haven't officially boycotted, but I've been trying to be patient in further expanding my collection into the early years in hopes this updating will be done. Not sure what I'll do next as I now have everything newer (starting with Floridays and even a YHTBT tossed in).

I'll bet JBs back catalog sales have seen at least some uptick since his more recent country success. Therefore, this may be an especially good time to get those MCA execs to loosen their pursestrings to make more money (in the long run) -- "catch the wave," if you will. As much of his early stuff is closer to the country genre, these may well be the most attractive recordings to the newly expanded audience. There's a real win there for MCA if they leverage it.

That’s the goal. Sometimes I have to bump these threads to get the contacts back up there for the newbies and to those who have come to realize just what is at stake here. I know it can be annoying to some (if not many) and most people just see something related to album art in the subject line and “Parrot Monkey” as the latest poster and probably just ignore it at this point. For those of you who think that, please be patient with me.

An insert in my local newspaper printed an article on Jimmy in celebration of tomorrow’s concert (I live an hour from Tampa), and included several album covers in a side article. And (of course), they chose the versions of ¾ and Changes that included those ugly logos. Sorry, but it really gets me every time I see those and forced me to bump this up.

Hopefully I will be able to get a contact list (as appears above) as a sticky by convincing the powers that be of the importance of this. Then the list will stay at the top of the forum and I won’t have to strive to find relevance so I can bump these topics up.

I've noticed that when I go without listening to any of Jimmy's albums, which is most of the time, when I do listen to one it sounds great.

So the key is stop listening to JB and listen to someone else. And then when the weather warms up, pull out Living And Dying In 3/4 Time and just listen to it once and put it away.

I bought the Live From Hawaii and I've listened to it twice. I watched the DVD twice because I thought I might have skipped something but there is nothing to skip. I have listened to LTC a lot but that was when it came out and HGLookin' was all over CMT. Then I put it away. Then TATSun came out on CMT and I pulled it out and played it again. It's since been put back on the shelf and will come out when the weather warms up.
