Well, then how was the cliff formed in the first place?

Buyer beware. The government has no responsibility to combat stupidity.
probably a shared gig....the City wants the additional tax revenue..potential home owners like the view...planning commissions approve the developments including additions and alterations to structure and land. Approval means safe to build, all things being equal of course.
I still think the ultimate responsibility lies with the buyer of the land. Why would you toss out that much money without doing a bit of research on the area first?
Most do..insurance companies demand soil samples etc....but the rain we had I think qualifies as unusual and unique.....but it also the land of earthquakes.....another reason to move to Idaho
I would be fine with Insurance covering it. Just don't ask for handouts from the Government.

Unique and unusual would be a volcano erupting. Mudslides in Calisocialist happen all the time.

Precedent. Federal disaster funds pay idiots who insist on building in hurricane prone areas, along active fault lines, and within flood planes. Why should the idiots who build on the edge of an eroding cliff not be afforded the same undeserved handout?
90% of Southern California is a flood plain
Therefore, anyone dumb enough to build there deserves what they get.
You're right, think we should all move to Idaho
Unfortunately that is what is happening.
So I hear...wonder why the traffic conditions have not improved if everybody is moving out.

Several years ago. Hollywood Hills area was always in the news when we had significant rain. Vegetation along with other erosion control techniques have stabalized many areas. However......several developments..Anaheim Hills for example is on graded hilltop property. Depending upon the soil......Especially around beach communities where it is sandy or Loam is where a rainfall like this will quickly level a hilltop

They should not be building on these soil types then.

Especially unique since the closest active Volcano is Mammoth Mountain.

3rd highest amount of rainfall in over 120 years..I think that qualifies as unique. And several miillion dollars of damage belongs to the city. About time you yahoos chumped in some change :D

Take it up with the City of Laguna..they approved all the developments but I mainly agree..its risky move, like building 50ft from the ocean...she acts up....you got a problem
