Songs I don't want to hear on this setlist.....

Post by Pirate Lookin' at 40 »

I realize that there are alot of people at any Buffett show that are only farmiliar with SYKBH. This means that JB has to play most of the songs from that record or lots of people will leave disappointed and I fully understand this. Personally though, there are only about 4 songs there that I want to hear and I just wish that he could, just once, do a show and leave out some of these songs.

Honestly, and I will probably take some heat for this, but if I never heard "Why don't we get drunk" or "Come Monday" again in my lifetime I wouldn't care. Those are songs that seem to have run their course with me and I usually skip when I come to them on a CD. "Brown Eyed Girl" is another that I can live without. I'd love for him to replace those three with "Ballad of Spider John", "Far Side of the World" and "My Lovely Lady".

I'd bet that I am not the only one here that would like to see some of the regulars replaced.

I think a lot of us feel the same way. We all have the "ones" we'd rather not hear and we all have suggestions for substitutions. But I also think (believe it or not) that we are the minority. Jimmy said in the interview on CMT that he knows his audience pretty well and by that I'm guessing that he chooses a large portion of his setlist depending on audience reaction and participation. Just my take on things.

The songs that I would rather not hear, definately get a better reaction from the crowd than the ones I would like to see them replaced with. This much is true.

I knew I was the minority when at the Columbia show he started to play Banana Republic and Presents To Send You and I was the only one in my entire section who stood up and could sing along. But when Margaritaville came on.........whoa baby!! All of a sudden everybody's on their feet, singin' along like there's no tomorrow. (Ironically, this is where I sat for a spell. ) I've gotten used to it though. Hell, I'm the only real parrothead in the group that went to the show with me. The rest of 'em are what I call the "SYKBH crowd".

I believe that one problem people have is they listen to RM for each concert, then get tired of the same set list. It's like listening to the same CD over and over. Yes there are a couple of songs that are main stays, and we'd like a possible change up. But frankly, it ain't gonna happen

As much as there is setlist "I" would love to hear or the hardcore PH community would love to hear....at every show it's someone's "first time" to hear "Come Monday" live.....everyone should have that opportunity! Can't wait to share it with my daughter in Anaheim!

That is a great point that I have not considered. My daughter is 3 this year so it will be a couple of more years before her first show. She already thinks that everyone on the radio is "Jimmy Buffett".

There are always a couple in each concert that I could do without. I call them bathroom breaks. In this tour for me, Diamond as big as a Ritz will be my cue to head to the head or buy a drink when he is in San Jose. Cultural Infidel, Mental Floss, USS Zydecoldsmobile also send the parrotheads scattering. While he plays those when he has so many great songs that he never plays (Lovely Lady, Migration, Landfall, 12 Volt Man and others) is beyond me.

That's so very true. At EVERY show we run into newbies at pre-functions who can't wait for their first Buffett concert experience. And as there are varying views on WDWGDAS- fact is it is as much a parrothead anthem as Margaritaville. There'd be a riot if he ever nixed it.

I wish he'd can "Cheesburger In Paradise" FOREVER and play "Somewhere Over China" or "Cowboy In the Jungle" instead.

I thought "Cowboy in the Jungle" was a sure bet to make the set list this year (especially with the obvious "A Salty Piece of Land" connection)...I guess not this time.

As of yet, no. But I would correct her real quick if that happened. I did notice that she was dancing in her car seat to "Off to see the lizard" the other day though. She'll be a parothead before too long and I can't wait for her to go to her first show.

Virgin concert goers DO expect the SYKBH songs.

But it is SOOO much fun to watch their puzzled expressions when he brings back a classic: Islands, Ragtop Day, Carnival World, etc. The rest of the choir is singing, and they are sitting there going "Duh?"

One group of virgins asked DS if Carnival World was on the new album. DS said "Dude, I learned that when I was SEVEN!" (I raised my son right, I am content!)

DS is STILL waiting for Off to See the Lizard live. And so am I!

And when the 'sigh, not again' songs come on - it's time for a bathroom break!

of course if you switch to jello shots, your buzz is happy, but you don't need to 'recycle' them as much as beer....
