It's a travesty!!!

Post by Fins in Low Places »

Cedric Houston just capped a perfect regular season (XBOX) with 367 carries for 2,457 and 63 TD and lost the cyber-Heisman to K-State's Darren Sproles (268 carries/1555 yards/22 TDs).

First Johnny Majors, then Manning, and now this!!! It's all one big conspiracy!!

That's alright, my Falcons beat the undefeated Vikings last night 107-14. I can't believe they scored 14 points!

Trust me, it'd for the best, that trophy (and I assume the cyber version as well) is cursed.

Yeah, I was almost inconsolably furious  when Peyton didn't win the Heisman years ago, but apparently this award means JACK DOOTY to people in the real world. 8)  Who votes for this thing and who counts the votes and what the heck are they smoking?

Very true. I've been to a couple of Sugar Bowls where heisman trophy winners were humbled.

I was at a function about fifteeen years ago with just about every living every Heisman winner up to the early '80s (the event was the year Detmer won, remember Ty Detmer of BYU). Anyway, the majority of those guys hadn't done much after college. There were guys who had lackluster pro careers, some who didn't even make it to the pros, and a few who left their mark on the NFL. They were all brilliant college players, but the Heisman hasn't really been the best predictor of who will go on from college to really make a name for himself in pro football.

It never has and it has never claimed to be...There are just as many great ones though as those who didn't become superstars

QB's that win the Heisman rarely (but not never) succeed.
RB's that win the Heisman usually (but not always) succeed.

Other positions rarely win...

1980-2001 (too soon to tell on Palmer, White, Leinart):

QB's
Eric Crouch---spectacular flop.
Chris Weinke---flop
Danny Wuerffel--flop
Charlie Ward--Never made it to NFL.
Gino Toretta--flop
Ty Detmer--not a flop, but average at best in NFL
Andre Ware--flop
Vinny Testaverde--Mixed results, but pretty good.
Doug Flutie--Mixed results, but pretty good.

RB's
Ron Dayne-flop
Ricky Williams--success, but weird guy
Eddie George-Major success
Rashaan Salaam-flop
Barry Sanders--Major success
Bo Jackson--success until injured
Mike Rozier--moderate success
Hershel Walker--success
Marcus Allen--major success
George Rogers--major success

Others
CB Charles Woodson--mixed results but mostly good.
WR-Desmond Howard--mostly a flop, except for his year with GB.
WR-Tim Brown--Major Success

Testeverde was hammered by Tennessee the year before he won the heisman and then lost to PSU the next year.

"Just won the Heisman? Duuuuuude.. You are sooooooooooo hosed."
"huh?"
"you are guaranteed of playing your best years for a crappy team, behind a porous offensive line that will reduce your stats to club-footed paraplegic levels; you will get hurt a lot; and when the time comes to trade you, the teams will shake your hand and snicker."
"huh?"
"Face it dude.. the only thing more pathetic than you as a Heisman winner, is you peaking in HS and spending the next sixty years in the local Corner Tap reliving your glory days between 16-18"

Speaking of the Heisman, does anyone remember the SNL skit (mid 80's) where Rich Hall as Doug Flutie and Eddie Murhpy as Bishop Desmond Tutu were on a talk show and Eddie dropped the trophy breaking off the arm He then frantically tried to fix it, ultimately wrapping it with the ribbon holding his Nobel Peace Prize?

Its one of my favorites.
