100 percent of something is the cap.
If 500,000 comes in at the gate, then that's the max at the gate.
100 percent of the gate is then 500,000. 110 percent of that does not exist.
If you are talking about a cut from the concession that is not gate money. Then the other 10 percent may be 10 percent of concesion sales.
exactly my point. the other 10 may be his guarantee fee that the venue coughs up, coming out of their revenue stream from overpriced concessions, etc. It is not that he gets "110% of the gate". A subtle difference.
as for brokers: I have no problem with them if they were only allowed to charge a maximum of say: double face value. I also would not have a problem with them if they were not given exclusive access to certain blocs of tickets/seats.
While it may be nice to sit in the first 5 rows, it is not an opportunity that everyone has a chance at getting.
I am also sure that the house and the perks the "friend, broker, and parrothead" has were not paid for because he decided to take a break on his fellow "parrotheads".
Finally, I am sure that Parrothead 216 also gets a nice break on the price of said tickets due that friendship, hence the glowing review. PH216: I could care less if your "vacations" are entirely Buffett-esque/connected rather than trips overseas (and aren't you lucky that evidently Jimmy plays multiple shows in your "backyard" so travel expenses are not part of the equation), brokers and the current system are still part of the problem.
Don't be so sure of yourself Ringling. Your opinion about our trips is not even relevant to the issue being discussed.
It is people like you who take what is a simple discussion about an issue and turn it into personal attacks that are ruining these forums. Until you have the knowledge of the situations and what dealing with a broker is like, then please refrain from criticizing people who have first hand knowledge.
We have learned a lot from our Phriend. One thing is that tickets are always available right before the show. Also, if you are willing to wait, the prices drop closer to the show. We went to Pittsburg for a show without a ticket. We went to the box office and pulled up 5th row center 4 hours before the show! We also paid for 2nd row seats from our phriend and had people we know pull up front row ..almost center the day of the show from ticketbastard , at face value! It is a game and if you are willing to play it, a lot of times you win!
As for a discount, we have always paid what was asked, and never received a discount. He now is an international ticket broker who doesn't even bother with concerts like Buffett. He handles the Super Bowl and the Masters and International Soccer! He has never over charged us for what we received.
As for Buffett coming to our "backyard" and not having to incur travel related expenses, we at this time , are not able to travel to see Jimmy. This is because sometimes life gets in the way of good times.
I hope this NEVER happens to you. So, the first time we got to see Jimmy in 3 years , was last year at Blossom Music Center. In the past we have traveled and incurred a lot of travel expenses, but situations change. I would be happy to be able to travel to see Jimmy at every concert of the year, even if it meant we had to spend thousands of dollars. So RinglingRingling, be happy that you can have some freedom in your life and go to see Jimmy or whatever makes you happy.
Money is for spending, and using it to see Jimmy is one of the best ways I know of!
* This was not a personal attack. If you want to take it as such, feel free. You stated you spent your travel money on Buffett shows, not trips to Europe. That is not exactly germane to ticket price discussions either.
** If he charged you more than face value for the tickets, he overcharged you. My opinion, but you are entitled to yours as well. (And for the record, I don't care if all he deals with are Soccer, the Superbowl, and the East Timorese penjak silat tourneys. Superbowl tickets are an obscenely-overpriced, impossible-to-get-unless-you-know-someone item as well).
*** Well, sadly, life does get in the way. Of course, the first time I got to see Jimmy was at Alpine 2 years ago. After listening to him since 1979. Seems that the Big Empty of MT is not a happening venue. This year, I am probably going to have to forego seeing him at Alpine (at least if the rumours are true about the date) due to work; and am going to have to miss my favourite Phlocking for the same reason. Life does get in the way, and I never said that it did not, nor did I say that you go to every concert.
**** This position is one where I can agree with you
Ringling you have made it a personal discussion , even if you are not aware of it! This is exactly why we don't respond to many discussions on any board. Enjoy your opinion. You seemed to like to disagree for the sake of disagreeing. My opinion is that it is not worth the effort it takes to discuss something like this with someone who seems intent on picking apart what ones says , instead of understanding that if you not rich today, you can't play in many of the ball parks of life. Ringling enjoy Buffett and Phins up and lets agree to disagree.

For 10 dollars I will teach anyone who is interested a fool proof way to sneak into Gillette Stadium for free.

I can't complain about the price of my Tampa tickets, they were free. Sometimes it pays to be a stalker.

I have to laugh whenever I see a thread like this with people complaining about the high price of concert tix. I've never paid a scalper, I refuse to, but I have paid as high as $250 face value to go to a concert. Nobody ever held a gun to my head, forced me to take my wallet out of my pocket and made me fork over the money. You think prices are too high, no problem. Simple solution too. Don't go to the concert. There are plenty of people who will be more than happy to buy those prices.

i paid face for tampa( thanks angel) sec 201 , no complaints , but i laugh at the people who say they are true fans and are trying to profit from it.i think the most i paid was 150.00 for the 1st 10 rows once.there was someone trying to sell sec. 104 before the tampa show at 175.00. i saw a lawn go for 125.00.people will try to get as much as they can if people are willing to pay it. the thing with the stadium shows is the supply will be greater than the demand. gillette stadium will probably hold 50,000 - 60,000 people. i would be surprised if it sold out.

if people don't disagree, then there is no discussion. You raise points, I address or clarify my position. You can take it or leave it.
Notice too that I said I had no problem with a fair rate of return. I do not put "parrothead" and "scalping Buffett tickets to other parrotheads" as behaviour that exists in the same sentence. Now, if you have Creed or DMB tickets and want to take off fans of those bands, I have less of a problem with that. Parrotheads are supposedly coming to the plate with a different set of ethics.
Last but not least: I sincerely hope you are not advancing the idea that the more money one has in their wallet, the better or more deserving one is. I am hoping I misunderstood you on that.

The ONLY good part about you getting them free is you are a TRUE and DESERVING fan!

I guess this fits in the ticket price thread -
Just was looking over my Tampa ticket and noticed that it included $8 parking and venue fee, that's a pretty good raquet if this is on every ticket. I'm thinking the venue really makes out in the long run with that vs the per car to park fee.
My Jax ticket showed no such fee (both tix had $1 SFC) but they did hit us $5 a car to park.
I think the Tampa Amp folks figured out a good way to get some additional funds to help fight the noise lawsuits.

I look at it as we're all pirates here....we just gotta give up alittle treasure to see the man in charge...
Thing is this Pirate needs to know if there are any treasure maps out there about were the best place is to get a ticket because I've already got the booty set aside I just need the chance to spend it
So I can go see the Man
arrrrrrrrgggggggggggggg

We all know that a lot of those 128 dollar tickets are gonna get bought by ticket "brokers" and jacked up to 500 plus a seat. The more I think about it the more I think I will go and not pay just to stick it to everyone.
Are you saying you can't be rich and be a Buffett fan? I always love that argument

Pretty common these days.instead of hitting a per car rate in the lot everyone gets hit...and then at some venues you can pay another $20 for vip parking.......whic IMO is worth it

i was fortunate enough to receive a ticket a couple years ago from a corporation who acquire large groups of tickets. i got a free pre concert part with food and booze and free transportation. i was exceptionally grateful. i ahve stood in line to get tickets and tried the online piece but to no avail so if i can get them for free after trying things i will but i wont beg for them (well maybe i will)
