Did anyone else catch this...

At the ASPOL land show that was televised from New Orleans, at the end of the show you could hear JB, whose mic was still on, go over to Mike Utley and tell him to turn and acknowledge the crowd. Did anyone else catch this??
I have wondered since if this was actually JB getting onto him or if they were just cutting up. It sounded real to me though.
I know...I should have posted this a few months ago, I was thinking about it though.

I didn't hear this, but at the first show in Columbia, Jimmy seemed to be getting on to Utley, too. He was picking on him about the Smiley Face beachball hitting him, but also about the fact that he didn't seem to be having any fun. We never saw him crack a smile the whole show. Then in Jacksonville, he was smiling and really enjoying himself. We thought, "Wow, must have got an attitude adjustment." Now that I think of it, though, Jimmy did say that Mike had the flu the first week of the tour. But he really doesn't seem like he enjoys the concerts as much as the rest of the band, or at least doesn't show it as well as the others.

I don't remember Utley being at the New Orleans show.
Also, I heard a few comments about Michael not feeling well and having the flu. During the intro at Jacksonville, Jimmy said Michael had taken some Nyquil and for the girls to be good to him and take care of him on the drive up to Charlotte. Jimmy did say that sometimes he talks to Utley like Johnny Carson did to Ed.
I think Michael has a huge job as music director for a show the size of Buffett's these days. I think he pretty much has to stay tuned to every detail going on during the show and always looks pretty serious.
I hope he is still having fun. He is my favorite of all the Coral Reefers. I think he does a super job and is highly respected and loved by Jimmy.

Mr. Utley does appear to be the "director" of the mechanics of the show on stage. While Cap'n Jimmy is definitely in charge of the ship, Mr. Utley is playing the keyboards & also directing things on stage.
I was fortunate enough to sit up close (& be sober most of the evening) at the last Atlanta concert in May 2004 and noticed that Utley really takes things serious & doesn't laugh alot. I think I even posted that comment about the Atlanta show. Jimmy does talk to him alot during the instrumental plays in songs and also in between the songs. Utley then appears to send orders/instructions to the other reefers, sound folks & crew.
Utley has always been the brunt of jokes, comments - like just a minute ago live in the Tampa show. Remember in the Austin City Limits show where Jimmy says to Utley that he's going to "kick his ass in golf", or at another Atlanta show in the early 80's Jimmy commented that Utley had been in Maryland eating alot of crabcakes & he has the "build for that".
Good combination, Jimmy & Mike and it's cool that he compares themselves to Johnny & Ed.
