I was in Border's book store the other day and they had a Jimmy Buffett CD called American Storyteller. It looks like a Jimmy Buffett CD, however, it's not listed on the Margaritaville.com website as one of Jimmy's nor does Parrot Monkey have it on his buffettremasters.com site.
I looked it up at Borders on line and it is listed along with a few others that are not listed on the sites I mentioned above. Some of them you can clearly tell where they come from, one is an import, others are tributes. Can anyone give me any info on this CD.
Is it just something that Delta music company put together, I didn't know that was legal. I'm just curious here to find out info about it. I've never come across this situation before. Here are the songs on it. It was released in 1999.
1. Christian
2. Ellis Dee (He Ain't Free)
3. Richard Frost
4. Mile High in Denver
5. Captain and the Kid
6. Captain America
7. Ain't He a Genius
8. Turnabout
9. I Can't Be Your Hero Today
10. Livingston Gone to Texas
11. Traveling Clean
12. God Don't Own a Car
Thanks for all your help. M

American Storyteller is a cheap repackaging of songs that originally appeared on Down to Earth and High Cumberland Jubilee. While it's not an officially sanctioned Buffett release, it's not exactly a bootleg either. I'm not sure how to put it into the proper legalese but a similar thing happened to much of Bob Marleys pre-Burnin' material. That's why you'll see various compilations of Bob's early work consisting of many of the same songs. The same thing has happened to Buffett's pre-White Sportcoat work on both vinyl and compact disc. If you want the complete albums, I suggest picking up the re-releases of Down to Earth and High Cumberland Jubilee on the Varese record label.
