U2 will announce the fall North American leg of its Vertigo tour later today (March 7). The run will begin Sept. 12 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto and include about 40 dates, before wrapping Dec. 19 at the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Ore. Tickets go on sale this weekend, and a U2.com pre-sale will again be offered to fan club members.
Arthur Fogel, president of TNA International, worldwide producer of the U2 tour, tells Billboard.com, "hopefully all the [pre-sale] issues will have been worked out. It helps to have more than one show in New York."
Indeed, U2 will go up with three New York shows on the new leg, and route "padding" there and in several other markets will allow for more shows to be added as dates sell out.
Among the markets the band will be revisiting are Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia and Los Angeles. Vertigo will also play Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Montreal and dates in Florida and Texas.
The first portion of tour begins March 28 in San Diego and wraps May 28 in Boston. European dates follow from June 10 until Aug. 11. Before playing a note, U2 has already sold 2.2 million tickets and grossed about $185 million. By the time Vertigo concludes it will be one of the top grossing treks of all time, with a total nearing $300 million.

Looks like I'll be in Atlanta for my birthday. Am I the only one who thinks it's annoying how bands will announce a whole slew of shows one day, and the tickets go on sale a few days later? Guys give us a couple of weeks! Let the word get out, and, in the case of some of the bigger shows (I'm looking at you Mr. McCartney and everyone else with $100+ tickets), give your fans time to budget and plan the necessary travel.

I'm talking about time between announcement and sale date. Because you can't get good seats unless you buy on the actual on-sale date, and you can't buy tickets until you know whether or not you can actually go, they should give you a little more time to coordinate schedules and make sure you can afford to make the trip. This is an even bigger concern when ticket prices get close to, and sometimes over, $200 per seat, as with McCartney, and the Rolling Stones who are both expected to announce US tour dates soon for the coming Fall.

I will definitely be there too. I was looking on Ticketmaster and it said Registered Propaganda Members Presale Begins 3/8/2005. Who are these people and how do you get a code for this?PalmettoSon wrote:Looks like I'll be in Atlanta for my birthday. U2 Says 'Good Morning"
"Good Morning America" will kick off its summer concert series with U2, which will make its first morning TV appearance on the ABC program. But the Irish rock act won't actually be in New York's Bryant Park, where the show's performances usually take place.
Instead, the "GMA" team will travel to a stop on U2's current Vertigo tour. They will interview the band and select three songs to air May 20 and two more to air May 21 on the weekend edition of "GMA."
"U2 is the biggest act in the world; it's completely viable that we'd do something different," producer Mark Bracco says of the decision to air live concert footage rather than have the act perform in person. "For [a band] like U2, they can break some of the rules."
Other artists confirmed for this year's series include Shakira, Santana, Missy Elliott, Clay Aiken, Keith Urban and Avril Lavigne.
