I don't know about that, but after hearing JB do Lighthouse I tracked down the album it's on. It's from Gorilla and Mexico is also on it. I had never heard Lighthouse before so I was surprised to find out it was relaesed in 1975.

He definitely has not done a beach-y type record. He's stuck pretty close to his New England vibe ever since he started all those years ago on the Beatle's Apple Corps record label.
He goes about as far south as the Carolinas for a few numbers. "Mexico" happens to be a family trip down there when he was a baby and was too young to remember...

I don't think JT has a steel drum in his band, but you can pull a few songs together to form some good summer listening. Here are the JT songs I'd suggest:
Mexico
Summer's Here
Up on the Roof
Captain Jim's Drunken Dream (great song, Buffett should cover this one!)
Only a Dream in Rio
Lighthouse
Everybody Loves to Cha Cha
Throw in Carolina In My Mind, On the 4th of July and a Mark Knopfler song called Sailing to Philadelphia, a duet w/ JT. I heard JB do this song in Camden a few years ago (got cut from the RM feed), it is very good.
Add some of the Buffett songs he's participated in, and you have a great summer CD!!
Enjoy!

I think anyone would enjoy the mood of the songs on Best of Album from 2003.
There is one particular song on there called
Only A Dream In Rio that has a really special feel to it.
Mudslide Slim and the Blue Horizon also has a special feel to it. There is one song in particular,
Hey, Mister, That's Me Up On The Jukebox that is particularly good. That's also the album with
You've Got A Friend on it.

I think it just might be a good day to play James T all day...

JT is the only person I've seen live more than JB. I consider these two, along with The Chairman of the Board Mr. Frank Sinatra, the finest all around entertainers of our time. Another JT song I would point out that could be considered "summery" is "That's Why I'm Here." JT or JB could have written this verse:
Fortune and fame's such a curious game
Perfect strangers can call you by name
Pay good money to hear fire and rain (M'ville)
Again and again and again
Some are like summer coming back every year
Got your baby got your blanket got your bucket of beer
I break into a grin from ear to ear
And suddenly it's perfectly clear
That's why i'm here

dont confine yourself to "beachy" sounding music. a lot of good tunes can help you escape without having steel drums, etc. if you only focus on taylor's summer-type music, your missing out on a lot of good stuff.

I deffinetlyl don't confine myself to beachy music. I am a big Zeppelin and Hendrix guy too. I just wondered if he had any albums like that. I know his a great singer/songwriter, but wondered if he had a album that was mostly summertime music.

Sunny Jim played "Captain Jims Drunken Dream" at the backyard concert we went to last year, Bubba should definetly follow suit!

I would add
Raised Up Family
Whenever You're Ready
Little More Time With You
They're not beachy per se, but they are great upbeat summer sort of songs.

And I would add Bittersweet ... upbeat tune you start tapping toes to!

I actually
have that record ...
yes, one of those big black vinyl things ... I'm kinda old
. When I heard Jimmy do "Lighthouse" I dug it back out. Then I found a used CD at Newbury Comics (
for only $4.99 - gotta love that store
) which is now in my car.

If you ever get a chance to go see James Taylor in concert you need to do it because like Buffett he puts together a top notch very professional band that puts on a great show, usually in the 3 hour range.
It is awesome seeing him at Great Woods when he plays "Sweet Baby James" and mentions the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston. Place explodes.

I always thought it was sort of cheesy when someone is putting on a concert and either a place nearby is naturally mentioned in the song, or worse, the person substitutes in a local road, town or landmark in the lyrics and people go nuts. Like for me, YEAAAY, Jimmy Buffett know about Cape Cod, YEAAAY, boy we're on the map now, YEAAY!!!

Call me a geek, but I like when artists do that.
