HI everyone... I just had a question about Parrothead Clubs. I have been thinking about joining one for a couple of years now, but I just wanted to know if it's worth it? Is it a good time? What types of things do they do? Are there alot of time requirements? And is anyone here in a club in North Eastern MA? Thanks soo much!

Welcome aboard, Melissa!
A lot of useful info can be found here (including locations of existing PHC's):

I belong to a very small group, but I feel it's worth my time. We have a good time together, and enjoy sharing Mr. Buffett's "party with a purpose" idea.

They have changed my life for the better. I have more fun and have met so many great people. Made some very close friendships and helped a lot of charities.
You're right in the PH Club of Eastern MA region -
www.phcoem.com. You've also got Club Finz (NH/ME), PH Club of NH, and PHC of Maine nearby. OH! And don't forget the Nautical Whalers of SOuthern MA and my wonderful club, the Ocean State PH Club. We've got RI, MA and CT folk in our gang.
Check out the sites, go to a meeting or a social, and see how you like it. If you go to PHCOEM's site, they should have loads of info and links to all the NE clubs.
We just had a great convention in Danvers hosted by PHCOEM and raised over $30,000 for Special Olympics while having a blast with tropical parties and great music.
Try it - you'll like it!

Melissa-
You should definitely join your local PH Club!!! I have been a member of my local Club for the past 5 years (and President for 2 of those) and I really don't know what I did with my free time before I found the phlock!!
You will make friends with lots of like-minded individuals in not only your PH Club, but in Clubs all over the country. Having such a large PH family makes concerts, parties, and other phlockings even more fun!!!
It's also a great way to get more involved in your community and be part of a group that makes a difference...
Our Club (the Bluegrass Parrot Head Club) just celebrated it's 10th Anniversary this past Saturday with a huge bash and we were joined by PH's from many surrounding Clubs (including Evansville, Indianapolis, Louisville, Cincy, and the Virtual PH Club). The party was a blast and while the final count's not yet in on the money we raised, we think a $10,000 donation to Alzheimer's is in our near future!!!
So go join a phlock and start "Partying With a Purpose!"
I guarantee you'll be glad you did!!

Not to be a "bring me down" but some clubs seem rather snooty. I tried to introduce myself to the members of the Isle Of Iowa Club at their bus at Alpine two years ago, because phriends were trying to get me to join, and they were a bunch of butts. (Wino must not have been with them) They acted like I was some kind of a bother. I have made no move towards joining since, even though my friends have recruited about 50 from our town.

totally agree with you , CubbieBear
we have also been approached and questioned as to why we don't belong to a club. . . .
frankly, there are usually more " parrot-asses " than parrotheads !
I would join in a second if we could belong and participate in the clubs that host Desdemona or TikiBar . . .

I am founder and president of the Aussie Club and have been to MOTM a few times where the clubs go for their annual phlocking.
I then attend the club leaders brunch there - and I have always found the club leaders to be the most friendly and approachable bunch of people you would want to meet.
The clubs raise hundreds and thousands of dollars for charity over the year - their contribution to charity is just awesome!
Of course you will get a few people in some clubs that might be "snooty" but that is just part and parcel of human nature .....

There are snooty people in every Club, but you can't let 1 or 2 bad apples put a bad taste in your mouth in regards to the Club as a whole!
Go to one of their Club meetings or functions and introduce yourself! If you aren't sure about it, you can do what a lot of our new members have done recently and that is sit back and watch the group for a while. Once you have scouted them out, you can decide whether or not you think it's for you! We have had people do this a lot and they usually end up coming on over to join the phun!!!
You're welcome to come join my Club, but if you're gonna have travel for Club functions (I'm in KY), you might as well do it right and go join Creeky's Club in Aussie!!
