Ok, so my dad and brother-in-law are about to open a sign making business, but they are having trouble coming up with a name for it. They want something catchy, any ideas would be appreciated. 8)

Free Beer

I know, nothing to do with signs, but that would certainly get my attention. Might want to stock up on beer though. I never said there was not a drawback to the idea.

What about Microsoft? Millions of people have heard of it and it has that familiar feeling of success associated with it! Sure Gates and Company might not like, but think of the publicity you would get when big bad Microsoft takes you to court!

check your state corporation commission and the US patent and trademark website for existing names....

i'm guessing margraitville signs or cheeseburger in signs would be a bad choice....

Might invoke a Cease and Desist letter from Bill Engvall's attorney. instead of trying to make a pun, I would stick with something related to the area. Where will this company be? Signcinati? Sorry, had to do it. But seriously, your best bet is to avoid the punny names and go with something simple, either the owner's last name or something regional. If you really want more creativity, create a fack name that plays on the sign business, but isn't a straight up pu, like Earl T. Backlighter Graphics.
If you need any marketing/advertising help, I'd be glad to offer my assistance (I have a little experience in that field). If i think of any good names I'll let you know.

food for thought, never use your name in a business name. if you ever sell the business then you lose the right to use your name.

just ask walter s. taylor. after the taylor family sold their taylor winery business to coke, walter went and started another winery. coke sued his ass off several times and poor walter isn't allowed to put "taylor" on anything to do with his winery. the courts repeatedly said you sold the rights to "taylor", tough we don't care that it's your name, you can't use it now.

Horizon Signs

Not my best, but a few ideas that popped up in the last few minutes. Good luck!

That's why you need a good business attorney when you sell your business. There are ways to assure that you can still use your name, you just need to make that clear in the sales contract.
Often the most successful small businesses use names because it makes them more familiar, and people tend to believe that if you put your name on your business, you will be more likely to stand behind your product.

These are good! Made me laugh... (but that middle one makes me think of a deaf person twirling around a lamppost with his hands going so fast he drops his umbrella....)
