I just received this in an e-mail from a friend...anyone heard anything else about this? How unbelievably cool would this be??!!!

Parrotheads:

Hope that all are sitting down, while reading this posting.

Since this event will be at Wrigley Field, this will turn out to be
better
than the mayhem that happened on July 12, 1979, Disco Demolition Night
at
Comiskey Park, which was known as dubbed as "Officially The Worlds
Largest
Anti-Disco Party".

The word around town, from bar owners in the Wrigleyville area, is that
they are trying to find a way for the Buffett Show Goers to have a great
evening. Instead of having too many police, who can not control the
party-goers, tailgaters, etc. They are trying to get an approval from
the
City of Chicago to shut down the following streets:

1. Clark Street - Between Newport/Waveland
2. Sheffield Avenue - Between Newport/Waveland
3. Addison Avenue - Between Clark/Sheffield
4. Waveland Avenue - Between Clark/Sheffield

The bars would be serving beer from plastic containers and allow you to
order a beer at Bernies', then walk across the street to Sports Corner,
then into the Nesei Lounge, all without having to dump out your open
container of alcohol.

I could definitely see that happening. And it would most definitely be cool!

I might actually be tempted to go to that... just not the show itself.

Its ok, I am sure there are plenty of other drinks that will be just fine in a plastic cup!

As much fun as this would be.... I can tell you, living in the neighborhood, the Alderman, Lakeview Neighbors, and the City will never let that happen... We can dream though...

Stranger things could happen but I doubt it. During the Cubs playoffs certain streets were shut down to traffic but no alcohol was allowed outside. I think that this concert was hard enough to sell to the neighborhood groups without this added to it. If the Cubs and the Alderman are looking for more of these type of events in the future I think that anything above and beyond the concert would be a negative for the first one. Would the bar owners want this and are they asking probably yes. The bar owners are always looking to do these types of things but the City almost always says no. Streets in the Wrigleyville area are already closed for at least three weekends during the summer for different festivals. A fourth one would be really pushing it.

I could see shutting down Sheffield and Waveland and maybe Addison, but Clark is too much of a main street. A couple of blocks of fun would be great, though.

Waveland, Addison and Sheffield would be the worse streets for the neighborhoosd groups since there are more residents living on thise blocks than on Clark. You do have a few bars but not really that many when you consider Clark street If my count is correct there are only three bars on those streets that are close to Wrigley Field.
