Yes, kinda. I worked at Norfolk airport and when he would fly in for a show, some buddies and I staked out his plane and waited for his return. Talked to his pilot and got his autograph in the back of "A Pirate Looks at Forty". When Jimmy got there, got a quick hello and then he signed the front fo my book. Got a two-fer! Also, the pilot gave my buddies and me a miniture of Margaritaville tequila. Good night!

great person, lot of fun, very entertaining...
also, there was a rest. on the beach which he liked and usually
jammed the nite before...

I saw that...it was a very poignant moment for you two.Ilph wrote:I met him in the summer of 03. I was in the lawn at Alpine, and Jimmy was on stage. He was a ways away, but He pointed straight at me during a song. I waved back. We had a moment.

We met Jimmy & Jane Buffett while they were biking on Shelter Island and getting on the "Southern Cross" (no joke) Ferry leaving Shelter Island and we happened to be the last car on. Then they let walk-ons and people with bikes board last. Jimmy was just standing against the ferry when I got out of car and approached him with a fins baseball cap. My first words were "I have been waiting a very long time to meet you". He looked down at the hat I was holding and said "How the hell did you recognize me"? (He had on a bike helmet & sunglasses on)....... We both laughed a little and then I pointed to the back of my car with my Margaritaville License plate frame and Air Margaritaville sticker. Jimmy then asked who was in the car, and we walked over and I introduced him to my wife, and two daughters. He reached in the window and shook everyones hand and said "Hi, I'm Jimmy"........ It was so cool as we were the only ones who realized who it was and no one else came over. I had 7 minutes to hang with him!!!!!!!!! (thats how long the ferry ride over to North Haven is) I said to him how great Radio Margaritaville is and then he interupted me and said "Well then you are just the person I would like to ask a question to." I said go right ahead, and then he asked me if I had to, how would I feel about due to something about broad band paying a small subscription fee to get Radio Margaritaville? I told him I would not be too thrilled about the idea but would probably do it because of the concerts............ He then asked me where I lived and after I told him, he said "why the hell are you leaving Shelter Island on such a beautiful day?" I said I had some things to due and then he offered autographs to me, and also signed some for the kids. I still have the marker he used with his teeth marks on the cap....... Then I asked if we can take pictures with him, he said sure, so I gave Jane Buffett my camera and showed her how it worked....... She asked Jimmy to take his bike helmet off and he said no.................. I told him if you ever see a 19' Grady White buzz past your house, thats me................ He laughed and then we said good-bye and thanked him........ I still see him from time to time outside his house, and he waves back after we buzz his dock........... (I don't have the balls yet to actually stop)............... This story is 100% true and not fabricated at all............. Our experience of meeting him was that he was and is a great guy.................

COOL STORY, Isle Reef... love the details.
I would treasure that memory forever...
All I have is dreams, so my answer is "No, but I feel like I have." I've had SOOOOO many dreams in which he is the captain of a sailboat or a river raft on which we're taking a cruise, and he's the tour guide as well. Once we went all around the coast of Florida from Jacksonville around Key West and up the Gulf Coast past Panana City Beach to Mussle (sp?) Shoals, Ala. What a dream!!! Once I even met him, and my family spent the day with him, on a vacation in a mesa village out west, climbing cliffs and stuff. It's been awhile... maybe I'll dream about him tonight... Hey, I feel a nap coming on!!!

It really was an amazing experience............... The ending of the video when he is sailing in that sailboat to "Lovely Cruise" was filmed around the waters in front of his house in North Haven and Shelter Island....... I don't want to sound like I'm bragging, but it is pretty awesome when his seaplane has just landed and he hops out of it onto the dock and then usually someone else takes it away.............A1A BOUND wrote:WOW! don't you agree that Jimmy is one of the " approachable ", polite and friendly people you'll ever find . .? ? ?
he is truly " real " . . .
p.s. - you're kinda a cutie , too . . .
He is very approachable & polite under the right cirumstances I would say........ I would never want to intrude and tie up to his dock uninvited (Yes I want to, but I won't)

Not positive on the watch id, maybe a Blue Faced Oyster made by Rolex after doing a little research.................. Shelter Island is a small island inbetween the 2 eastern forks of Long Island only reachable by ferry............ I'm pretty sure his kids go to the Montesouri School in the Hamptons as he has done benefit shows for the school in the past................... I think he is more of a summer time resident when not touring and spends more time in Florida during our crappy winters...................A1A BOUND wrote:IS SHELTER ISLAND IN NEW YORK? Lucky & blessed.......................... Depression and anxiety is slowly killing me.................. I lied to Jimmy when he asked why I was leaving Shelter Island on such a beautiful day................ It was that I was at my parents summer home on Shelter Island and suffering from depression, I just wanted to head home and beat the traffic.....................Not looking for sympathy at all, but I just have a hard time enjoying the moment.................Ilph wrote:Isle, you are awesome.IsleReef wrote:We met Jimmy & Jane Buffett while they were biking on Shelter Island and getting on the "Southern Cross" (no joke) Ferry leaving Shelter Island and we happened to be the last car on. Yes
Yes. I wanted to give him a souvenir Virginia Parrot Head Plate to say thanks for letting us do it. Here's what I posted back in July 2004 describing the meeting:
It happened at Nissan. Backstage passes were left at Will Call for us. We went back and relaxed a bit with the munchies and drinks. Turns out one of the security ladies knew my wife, her mother and my mother. We watched as several groups were led back to meet Jimmy. We also watched as the clock kept ticking towards 8:00. Eventually most of the people back there had made their way out and to their seats. At about 7:55 Mike Ramos came, apologized and said that they had gotten backed up with corporate groups and family groups. I told him I wanted to give him the BUBBA plate and have him sign the SAMPLE plate. He said no problem and he'd take care of it.
At that point the security lady told him that my 7 (now 8 ) -year old daughter (Alyssa) had been waiting patiently and he needed to get her back there. He said he'd see what he could do and he ran back. Charleston came around from a different area and apologized as well. While were were talking to him Mike came back out, gve me the plates (already signed) and said to follow him. We went through the dining area and down a hall and ended up on the side of the stage.
Jimmy was standing in front of us talking about some songs with some other people. We could see the crowd between the side and the curtain. Then Jimmy turned around and introduced himself to me. I introduced myself, J (the designer) and then he turned to Alyssa and asked her name and introduced himself to her.
I gave him the plate and he seemed very excited to see it. He asked if they were out yet and when I told him they were all over the parking lot he looked at me and asked "How in the Hell did you make this happen?"
I told him three years of hard work. Then he got excited and was showing the plate to all the people around there. He then told me he was going to put it on his golf cart. There was some other chit chat and then Mike took the photo of us. We said our goodbyes and headed back out.
We'd just gotten to our seats when the show started. Another highlight was when he dedicated License to Chill to the Virginia Parrot Head Clubs for getting the plates out. You can see the full photo at http://www.parrothead.org/.
