Jimmy Buffett tickets: gone in 60 minutes
Tuesday, March 15, 2005

By Monika Kugemann, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Jimmy Buffett, who habitually sells out the Post-Gazette Pavilion for his summer concerts here, set a new record when 42,000 tickets for this year's show at PNC Park vanished within 60 minutes.

Tickets for the concert, scheduled June 26, went at a rate of 11.6 tickets per second on Saturday.

If past shows are any indication, Buffett's music and fans will bring a tropical touch to the city, transforming PNC Park into a colorful beach party. His set list is sure to include songs from his newest CD, the platinum-selling "License to Chill."

Hmmm, that's odd considering there are still tickets available.

Just so you know...most venues declare sellouts when you can no longer get pairs of tickets. It seems stupid but that is what they do. I know that is how our Venue Manager told us to handle it in the Marketing Dept at Michigan State's Breslin Arena and Spartan Stadium.

It does sound better that way. And I guess it helps the marketing people book more entertainers; "hey, we can sell out in less than an hour!"

As a promoter, every penny counts, but once there are no pairs left, it's a done deal and you can stop promoting the show.
