you can pretty much bank on Urban, Gretchen and Pat green to be there, Kracker wouldnt be a surprise, and jImmy would be a long shot but you never know[/quote]
I'm on the Pat Green Dancehall board and we've been just discussing that it would be just too cool to have Jimmy show up at that show in Dallas. But I think you're right, it would be a long shot..

Urban wants to be a rocker so bad he can't stand it. Only problem is that there isn't an audience for him in the rock and roll world. Keith Urban is a very prime example of why country music sucks today.
Pirate Lookin' at 40 wrote:Yeah, Gretchen is a good fit for this show as well. She is doing anything but "keepin' it country". What a joke.
I could be wrong, but you seem way too focused on categorizing musicians... why not just let
them play what they play, and
you listen or don't listen, instead of complaining of who or what they want to be...

Because, as someone who has probably listened to country music longer than 90% of the people here, it bothers me to see it go in the crapper like it has been doing for a few years now. There is nothing country about Urban, Dicks Bently and Gretchen Wilson. I may not like Kenny Chesney, but at least he is country. For now, anyway.
What a freaking assinine statement. All you are doing is talking off the top of your head assuming that you have listened to country music longer longer than anyone here. From your name PL@40 one can assume that you are somewhere near 40. Well hun, you're not older than me by a long shot and I was raised on country. But even if you were 105 and had been listening to country for your whole life that dosn't give you the right to constantly spew forth your negative comments. Haven't you ever heard that if you can't say something nice it's best to not say anything?
I agree with txparrothead29 that you are becomming very annoying. When I see that you have posted in this forum I immediately know that you're again just showing what an ass you really are. It would be nice to find out that I'm wrong that you're not a complete and utter ass but it's getting very hard to do when the majority of the posts I read from you are so freaking negative. I really hope you get that chip off your shoulder someday.

So, if Urban were classified as rock, or Wilson as pop, you wouldn't have a problem with them? I guess your issues are more with radio execs then these particular musicians themselves... except Kenny who sucks, but
is country, but wants to be Buffett.
And for the record... do you lump Jimmy in with Urban, Bentley, and Wilson, sending country music down the crapper? Just curious...

Tikibar, you are probably right when you say that my problem is with the execs. If Urban were clasified as rock, I may not have a problem with him, though I probably would still not be a fan. As far as JB goes, the difference is that 'hey good lookin' and 'trip around the sun', the two singles that got lots of airplay sound country. I am not simply doing this to get a rise out of people as has been implied. If I wanted to do that, all I would need to do is start a anti KC topic and that would do the trick. When it comes to country music, I am a traditionalist, and I just simply don't like acts such as gretchen and big and rich calling themselves country. It's not that I like labels for music, because I don't. But what I hate is false labels which today's country music is full of. Several of todays artists feel the same way, such as Alan Jackson and George Strait, both of whom I like alot.

So Pirate, is it safe to say you're really looking forward to Cowboy Troy's (the rapping cowboy from Big & rich's stage show) new album?

actually it wasn't implied..I said it! And I think if you really didn't like the controversy then you WOULD start an anti Chesney thread.....do it and see how many people post....I guarantee that all of us posting positive things wouldn't waste our energy...

I think that someone needs to go back and look at my many anti KC topics and see how many people did "waste their time" responding. Plus, never did I say that I didn't like controversy. Hell, I love it!! But, my comments are not always designed to create controversy.

I don't break the rules and I have not been asked to change my sig and certainly won't just because you say to. You know, I have never met a person from Michigan that I didn't want to knock the hell out of. Generally speaking, of course.

Settle down boys. We're all friends here. Whether or not we agree on Kenny Chesney, I think we can all agree that we like Buffett.

Urban doesn't want to be a rocker . . .he is a rocker, and you're right, there is nothing country about him at all besides the fact that he has a banjo in his music. He is only played on country radio because he doesn't fit the american rock format. . . .before comming to america he was a relitivley big rock star in australia. The reason i like Keith Urban so much is that he brings rock to a genre that has become pop with a fiddle.
I love his band because its just him on lead guitar, some other guy on rythym guitar, a guy on mandolin / banjo, a guy on the organs / keyboard, and a drummer. . . .its really not too country at all . . .no fiddle, no pedal steel, no dobro, no cowboy hats or plad shirts or snake skin boots, and no whiney balads or repetitive choruses . . . .ive said all along, Urban is rock with a banjo . . .and he puts on one hell of a rockin' show
