Memo to JB.....Detroit.....The home of Rock n Roll!!!
JB.....time to bring the road show back to the Detroit Burbs....Pine Knob...Aka DTE Energy Music Theatre. Cornfield County Indiana gets shows, East Coast gets shows, West Coast gets shows. If it wasn't for the big lake the road trip to Alpine wouldn't be bad but....I'm not that great of a swimmer!

long standing rumur and very true rumur. In fact it seems they've managed to p*** off Kenny too!! Thats why he signs with Olympia entertainment now instead of Palace sports and entertainment.chibears wrote:I would love to see him play Pine knob. The rumor I heard is that JB's management does not get along with Pine knob. Thats just what I've heard.

This "rumor" comes up every year (since the late '90's if my memory serves me, and he's played several times at the Knob and the Palace since then), but there are never any details as to why there is a riff there (allegedly). I realize that where there's smoke there's usually fire, but can anyone out there shed any light on this beyond the annual vague references?

I heard it started when Pine Knob was doing their season packages and wouldnt let Jimmy play unless he was part of it, which meant no one got good seats. Jimmy allegedly told them to take a Flying leap.Tin Cup wrote:This "rumor" comes up every year (since the late '90's if my memory serves me, and he's played several times at the Knob and the Palace since then), but there are never any details as to why there is a riff there (allegedly). I find this a little hard to beleive. Why would any venue turn down the opportunity to have a guaranteed sellout?I heard it started when Pine Knob was doing their season packages and wouldnt let Jimmy play unless he was part of it, which meant no one got good seats. As for why Jimmy doesn't go there...my initial reaction was to say that its because he is like everyone else on the planet and would rather be anywhere than Detroit...but he is playing Philly so that theory would not seem to be valid.

You didnt read that right, They didnt turn down jimmy they wanted to sell the tickets as part of a package, they would've made more money off it but Jimmy wouldnt have , thats why he turned them down. Pine Knob is in Clarkston, Mi. Detroit metro but still a good hours drive from Detroit proper.SchoonerWharf wrote:I find this a little hard to beleive. I read it correctly. I repeat why would any venue which knows that they have one guaranteed sellout a year with Jimmy do ANYTHING that might upset the apple cart. You didnt read that right, They didnt turn down jimmy they wanted to sell the tickets as part of a package, they would've made more money off it but Jimmy wouldnt have , thats why he turned them down. An hour from Detroit...thats almost far enough away.

Off subject a bit, but...
Since when is Detroit the "home of rock n roll?"
Cleveland is the birthplace of rock (see Alan Freed).
Memphis is the birthplace of blues which gave rise to rock (see Sun Records).
I might even give you Wildwood, NJ (see Chubby Checker and Bill Haley).
But Detroit? That's the birthplace of the Motown sound - not rock 'n roll.
(These aren't fighting words. Just meant as fun.)
Now, with that rant over, best of luck to you Detroit! You deserve a show as does Nashville, Columbus, Cleveland, Omaha, Dallas...

I don't know- Philly seemed kinda cool, there's lots of history and stuff there.SchoonerWharf wrote:As for why Jimmy doesn't go there...my initial reaction was to say that its because he is like everyone else on the planet and would rather be anywhere than Detroit...but he is playing Philly so that theory would not seem to be valid.
And I would like to second the Columbus show request- the Shot was awesome! The port a pots were a hike, but they smelled nice and had no lines, and when I used the ladies room at intermission there was only 1 person in front of me! And the tailgate rocked!!

Actually Detroit (read metro area) is quite beautiful, if it wasn't so friggin' cold for 10 months out of the year!
Pine Knob is a great venue!!!. IMHO it's one of the best I've been to and (since he doesn't play here anymore) that means my road trips include Indy, Chicago, Alpine, Riverbend and Las Vegas. I understand what you meant about the $$$$ and season tickets. Sounds like PK wanted more of a take on the gate, to sell out some less desirable shows using Buffett as the draw.
PLEASE come to Detroit this year Jimmy!! We miss you!! If it means Comerica I'll still go, but I'm still hoping for PK!!!!! Gas is getting expensive!

Philly here
While not the home of Rock and Roll without question one of the major ports of rock and roll and that cannot be argued! We have pumped out TONS of talent over the years in Philly and the surrounding suburbs. We are tough fans, but we love our Sports (yes we feel we deserve a championship, there I said it) and we love our Music and by FAR Rock is the king in this town. We are one of the few towns anymore that can still say that.

MSU..........I'm just not excited about a Comerica show.....I guess I'll take it but I saw Springsteen there a mere 60-70 feet from the stage and it just didn't have that real good concert feel I've come to know!
