I have always liked Defying Gravity. It moved up on my list of Jimmy
favorites, when it was dedicated to the 9/11 victims at Fenway.

Now it is my favorite song.

My Dad unexpectedly passed away on Monday and I have listened to
Defying Gravity about 30 times this week and it has brought to tears each time. (And it always will)

We had a wonderful service yesterday for my Dad and now we are going to move on with Dad in our hearts.

I hope I hear it at Mohegan Sun (if it's for real) or the 2nd Philly show.

Sail on Dad....

Deepest sympathies to you and your family. That's the beauty of JB. Always there when you need him.

If you ever get a chance be sure to check out the original by Jesse Winchester. When it comes to covers Buffett sure knows how to pick 'em.

I was out a bar on Saturday night and they had one of those digital jukeboxes where you can play almost anything. And I played Defying Gravity simply because I read here what it meant to you.

Nobody knew the song, but it wasn't meant for them.

Buffett's covers can sometimes be a hit or miss affair but most of the time he's always on, as was Waylon. Another artist I admire greatly for their cover versions would be the late, great Johnny Cash. Once he covered it, the song in question pretty much became his since he put such a unique stamp on it. NIN's "Hurt" is one of many that comes immediately to mind.
