Regardless, you know as well as I do that the argument that claims the death penalty is a deterrant is referring to individuals who may consider committing a capitol offense...

Doesn't give specifics, Troy. A quote from the AP article "Santorum said Tuesday...that it's use should be limited to the 'most horrific and heinous of crimes'".
Man those Rebubs you have in PA would be left wing nut jobs here. I would hate to see what the Libs are like.
Yes sir. Funny thing is my boss is regarded as being much more conservative on alot of issues than our so-called conservatives.
Our REAL Libs are REAL scary.
Most modern day Libs are real scary.

I can recall 2 incidents of people being wrongly convicted One was Willie Horton that was convicted of murdering his children in Florida....that was released after 30 or so some odd years. I think the person that did it admitted to doing so in a death bed confession....
The other was a man convicted of rape and even the woman said it was not him...he was later cleared by DNA and released.Unfortunately he contracted AIDS from a gang rape in prison. One could say he got the Death sentence ....
Neither person was given any type of compensation for wrongful imprisonment or the lost years of their lives....
I am sure there are other numerous other cases....
That being said...
I am still for the death penalty...bring back hanging... rope is cheaper than the chemicals used.
We have the Aldays slaying in South Georgia some years ago..... Carl Issacs admitted to do doing it, said he would do it again, and was gla he did it. Read about him
http://www.clarkprosecutor.org/html/dea ... acs852.htm
I would include hardened repeat violent ( for example: battery/rape/peodphiles) felons on the death penalty list as a capital offense.
I had a 24 year old nephew murdered by a 13 year old punk.....the 13 year old was going to face the death penalty and copped a plea and was out by his 20 birthday......
Having the death penalty does nothing. It is the enforcement of the death penalty,THAT DOES WORK.
Several years ago ( I have not checked the current stats) It cost somewhere between $35,000 and $60,000.00 a year to maintain an incarcerated individual. I forget the exact number and it is probably higher now. But don't forget the guilty party also gets free medical and dental care too.
Then toss in the frivolous law suits, such as one filed about not being allowed to wear a pink nightie...there are many numerous ones that tie up our judicial system and bog it down. They have nothing but time on their hands....
One prisoner being allowed to earn a law degree comes to mind...paid for at taxpayer's expense...
Recently a convicted sex offender in Florida was reported to have a site looking for penpals. Prisoners are not allowed internet access...apparently he had a friend make it for him and clearly stated he had spent most of his adult life in prison...
Not really, related but Ted Bundy fathered a kid while on death row. Women seemed to be crazy about him and others.... such as those that are offering to marry Scott Petersen.
I think the length of appeals varies by state. I think it has been shortened to 14 years in some states.

Far left Libs are for sure... there's some tolerable moderate Libs... to bad they are ostracized within the party by the far left Libs that are in control right now.

Possibly. Inmates have killed other inmates, and prison guards as well.

You know what killed me? Watching Scott Peterson being led into San Quintin after he was sentenced to death...wearing a bullet-proof vest.
What, is California afraid that somebody might do their job for them?

Thomas Eugene Creech, who had been convicted of three murders and had claimed a role in more than 40 killings in 13 states as a paid killer for a motorcycle gang, killed a fellow prison inmate in 1981 and was sentenced to death. In 1986 his execution was stayed by a federal judge and has yet to be carried out.
We house and continue to feed this loser. I know some of the family members of his original victims

I think that vests should be provided to prisoners at their own expense, after every uniformed law enforcement officer has one provided at no expense to the officer.

2 issues with the list:
1) Prisoners being released for parole is a separate issue from capital punishment. I'm all for making life sentences life sentences. Frankly if you commit premeditated murder, society has an olbigation to its members to protect them from you, and to me that means no parole.
2) If you're justifying it on the basis that it could prevent murders then the logical continuation of your point would be that you've got to ban guns, since eliminating firearms would certainly prevent murders as well. We'd have to outlaw knives too, and rope.

Lee,
I don't think you need to or should remove the Right to self protection from law abiding people....it is already against the law for convicted felons to own weapons/firearms ...
You would have to eliminate blunt objects too! and pretty much everything around a person including water, bats, axes, hatchets, most metal objects, vehicles, rat tailed combs, hair spray and a lighters,etc.. the list goes on and on... because people can use almost and improvize anything for a weapon even a magazine.....
