Almost the exact same things were said about Great Woods/Fenway. Fenway wasn't Great Woods, and IMHO baseball stadiums generally s*** for concerts unless you're in the front section on the field, but it was fun because it was historic.

Wrigley will not be Alpine. But it can be fun if you make it fun.
I agree. I was part of the crowd that was really putting down Fenway last year. Ended up going and really have a great time, mostly because we made it that way. Yes the acoustics were bad and the tailgating was non-existent, but it was awesome seeing him playing next to the green monster. Sitting in the grandstand seats and seeing thousands of people down on the field all doing fins was worth the price alone.
Exactly! For a concert, GW wins over Fenway, hands down. But for an overall one-time event, it was AWESOME to see "Fins" happening in Fenway Park. And besides that, I'd never before been able to stand in center field at Fenway. :D

If I have a chance to go to Wrigley, I'll go!! Hell, Parrotheads can make a party out of anything! It won't be Alpine, but it'll still be a blast.
RightO!!! I wish I was able to see Jimmy at some big stadium. Its Jimmy Buffett!! Ya know its gonna be a great time!!! 8) It beats the hell outta sittin home and missing the show. Unfortunately I have to keep my fingures crossed for Raleigh b/c im a poor student who doesn't have the funds to travel that far. Its not looking good for Raleigh so far though. The RBC center doesnt hold as many people as those big stadiums. Oh well, I still have high hopes. Maybe he'll visit us here in NC one more time.. :D

Been pondering a bit further on this...is Jimmy sending a message to Clear Channel regarding their almost monopoly status (given they own both Alpine and Tweeter)? Do they also own Great Woods by chance? Along with the sentimentality of playing the old ballparks he's also showing some of the long-time venues they're not the only game in town -- and he knows he's one of the few with the draw power to hit them where it hurts. Unfortunately it's tough on some fans, too.

On the flipside, ticket prices aren't decreasing by any means...for Indy lawn is the same as last year but pavilion is up 25%...I guess he wan't a bigger piece of the fair market price (vs. enriching the scalpers) but that catches all of the initial ticket buyers.

I hope he does Alpine (for all my Badger and N. IL phriends), but it isn't looking too good...yet.

In the meantime, I'm almost down to counting the hours to Vegas... :D

JIMMY BUFFETT DOES NOT SET THE TICKET PRICES!!!

Maybe not directly, but he can influence prices by deciding how much to ask for a performance.

There are a few artists that have the influence to do this. Dave Matthews Band is one group that makes an effort to keep ticket prices affordable.

Yup, I understand that completely. I'm implicitly assuming that he's at least partially behind the price increases this year (e.g. asking for more $$s).

Buffett did not start playing Alpine regularly until 1995. There are a lot of other sites that have more reason to assume that Jimmy should play there before Alpine.
I thought I was the only one who was of that opinion. Its kinda weird. I am afraid we are going to have to talk some people off buildings.
