I can understand people griping a bit about ticket prices becuase they do appear to be higher this year. However, Buffett's tickets have been one of the true bargains for many years. He has consistantly had ticket prices far below most A-list performers. I have been to and heard of many concerts where the cheapest tickets were well above Jimmy's mid-level prices. The simple fact is that Jimmy provides a better show with more songs than most entertainers and still does it at a reasonable price. Not to mention that he also provides his concerts free on Radio Margaritaville for those that do not wish to pay for a ticket. There seems to be plenty of people out there willing to pay his asking price. If we were in his position would we be doing anything different?

Part of the issue is ticket scalping. If scalpers get $100+ per ticket over and over, there are two choices. Let the scalpers make the money or the band/promoters make the money. Supply and Demand. Scalpers can only go so high for most seats, so raising base pricing minimizes their profits.

Customer pays close to the same amount (all-around average).

I wonder what percent of original ticket sales for any given show are actually used by the original buyer?? Would be interesting to know.

Ticket prices

Post by Phinsup2! »

Sooner or later, there will be no more JB shows. Sure, it can be steep to attend a show, but I approach each show like it may be the last time I get to enjoy the PH experience.

Not being morbid, just savoring the moment.

If the prices are too steep, show up, enjoy the tailgaiting in the parking lot, then see if you can find surplus from a scalper after the show starts.

Amen!!! I am by no means a rich person, but save every extra cent from year to year just for the PH excitement a show brings yearly. I am noticing so many changes in this year's tour that it gives me a spooky feeling. So I too look at each year with that "one day it will be gone" theory. How sad to think it, but he's given us all so much for so long. The feeling will live on of beahes, sand, islands and escape from daily life. I thank you Bubba! Sad thing is...it doesn't appear that he is going to either Alpine or Tinley Park, so I don't know where to try for. As said above..."there's always a way"

I'm not complaing, mind you, to me it's worth the money to be able to do the tailgate, see the show, have a great time, and make some hazy memories. But I do draw the line there. It's not the ticket prices that bother me, but the souvenier stand. I just can't justify shelling out such rediculous money for t-shirts and CDs (not just Jimmy's a lot of artists).
So I still dont get why my kids come home with t-shirts for $10 to $15.00?? And these are pretty big bands. They usually get cd's for $10.00 also. Must be the old charge what the market will pay thing eh?
Your kids don't have the income you do. Acts like Jimmy, Elton John, the Stones, the Eagles, their fan base has money. And they know that people will pay these prices for merchandise along with the tickets. Hoobastank and Britney Spears fans pretty much still work at the mall if they work at all, so it wouldn't make any sense for those acts to charge so much because, even if the fans wanted to buy it, they wouldn't have the cash to.
