This hidden track off Don't Stop the Carnival is the coda to a fine musical adaption of the Herman Wouk novel by JB. Green Flash is a songlet and I have posted it's lyrics. I think I heard JB do the "song" once live during the eponymous tour. (Phrsaunt)
The lyrics are not found on Margaritaville.com; rather I got them from Cobo.org.
The flash in question is a piece of Mother Nature's magic much like the Northern Lights and the Southern Cross. Hope I get to see them all before my sunsets.
Green Flash at Sunset
To long ago chances,
To all the long stances,
To strange circumstances,
An Island review.
Green flash at sunset,
Young love recaptured,
Just an illusion,
Would it were true.
I know Jimmy Buffett, Jimmy Buffett is a friend of mine. Son, you're no Jimmy Buffett!

Ate some bad scallops once at an early dinner near Jones Beach once. Turned Green and Flashed the waitress before I collapsed. The owner of the joint- a Southerner, was quite Cross with my behavior. Told this Northerner he'd put my Lights out for me if I didn't leave.
As the Federales arrived I could swear I heard "African Friend" in the distance.
I know Jimmy Buffett, Jimmy Buffett is a friend of mine. Son, you're no Jimmy Buffett!

I'm in the middle of "Don't Stop the Carnival" now and was wondering if there really was a green flash. It seems as though it's true based on these comments. Hope to see it someday. Can you see it from Jamaica? That's usually where I go. No Mistaica.

Yep, it's for real. More common at lower latitudes, like in Jamaica. Best chance is when there's a clear, cloudless horizon, so you see the sun drop below it.

yep, I have seen it also several times. . .it is absolutely for real . . .but the most amazing sunset I have seen was in Key West .. . . the sun literally melted into the water in almost a pyramid shape . . .
hard to describe, but it was amazing and lasted for several minutes . .

I've seen the Southern Cross, the Northern Lights (both several times) but have missed this Green Flash phenomemon. I obviously need another trip down South (but wait, I just got back from the Keys -- obviously I need to go again....).

I can't wait to get to Key West this summer! I was there two years ago, but only for a few hours, it was a port of call on a cruise I was on, and this summer, I'm doing Key West up right! Instead of four hours, I'm spending four days. Which means four sunsets, too.
