I have said for a long time that he has about ridden the "Clapton is God" rep so far into the dirt that Death Valley is a climb upward.
That might be true if Clapton actually believed the hype but in every interview I've ever seen where that was mentioned he always played it down to the nth degree.

The man takes white trash to a new level... fortunately, this was at a music festival so we didnt pay to actually see him... we stayed for the first two or three songs and then had to leave... between his dip spit and the surrounding river rat crowd... I got my fill rather quickly... and I was quickly reminded as to why we are perceived the way we are here in Alabama... sad sad display of chromosomes that night
