Attention Scotch drinkers

Post by PHBeerman »

I drink the good whiskey (Irish) But I have a friend coming over who drinks the vile liquid known as scotch. What is ok for under 30 bucks a bottle?

You can get a bottle on the smaller side (but not tiny) for about $20.

Don't know pricing in your neck of the woods, but you can't ever go wrong with Dewar's (White label or 12 yr/old). Very smooth rich flavored and little bite (IMHO) J&B is a solid choice as well. I do not find it necessary to go for the single malt high end very often and unless someone really has a preference, they may not even like the taste (if they have only had blends) The Johnny Walkers have a "smokier taste" some like it others don't.

btw, I am doing this from memory. since keets I seldom get to look at the top shelves

I hear you there. I treat myself a couple times a year to a bottle of Jameson 1780. I have a hard time drinking cheap Whiskey.

I always drank Dewar's back in college. It wasn't too expensive if I could afford it then.

the Glenlivet is not famous for being the best single-malt, but it does not taste bad and it should be less than $30 in your neck of the woods.

If it were me I'd buy Dewar's. (I don't complain when I'm drinking someone else's whisky.)

I reccommend for you to check out Johnnie Walker BLACK Label. It is a blend but ...No idea what the prices are in your area but it may or may not be close to your price range. Probably not, but well worth looking at.
Image

If you had some serious money to spend, go for the Johnnie Walker BLUE Label. ( It AIN'T CHEAP nor is it inexpensive )

Image

Interesting note there is a Jonnie Walker 15 Year Old Pure Malt that is sold in some countries as "Green Label" Ring a bell to anyone?

Then there is Glenfiddich

But I don't think you will go wrong with Dewar's.

"Famous Grouse" is a blend that is inexpensive is not bad....that several friends have liked.

How good is the friend? :D

My mom (born in Ireland) does not care for Scotch either. . Dad like Scotch and is not a fan of Whiskey. . I like both . .

Glenlivet or Glenfiddich are a little more than $30 a bottle. Another one I like is Cardhu. . . (and the bottle is kind of cool!)

Image

I think it's a bit more than the others. .but if Scotch is an acquired taste. . you may just acquire a taste for it . .and you might as well have something good. :D

What Whiskey are you serving? :D
