I was a rebel.... if I'd worn a skirt to school, they would have called the whitecoats, sure I'd lost my mind...... corduroys or jeans, every day....

I missed his comment, but there are some things that really are taboo as one gets older, definitely...... (mini-skirts on 45 year olds, even ones with the body for it..... um, no......)tikitatas wrote:It was Larry's comment about Goldie Hawn in the sexy women thread that got me thinking about dressing gracefully as you age . . .

All schools here have compulsory uniforms. Girls had to wear the dress or pinafore. I remember the day we were FINALLY able to wear trousers to school ( they had to be brown).SchoolGirlHeart wrote:I was a rebel.... if I'd worn a skirt to school, they would have called the whitecoats, sure I'd lost my mind...... corduroys or jeans, every day....
I was one of the first out of those dresses and in to the trousers! (Complete with blue shirt, and school tie!)

Polyester anything.....but particularly those zip up jumpsuits for men...with the little built in elastic belt (why would a jumpsuit need a belt)....tikitatas wrote:Just for fun, tell me some clothing that reminds you of how your grandparents dressed.
For me, it's the khaki, zippered windbreaker that my Granddad wore in all seasons but winter . . .
My Nana always wore a headscarf out in public even if it wasn't windy or raining.
House dresses....I'm not really sure what a "house dress" is, but remember my Grandma talking about going to Sears & Roebuck to find some nice "house dresses" for summer.....

we had to wear skirts (though not uniforms in public school) up until about 6th or 7th grade. as soon as I saw one other girl in pants, I screamed until I got my way..... (I think my parents thought this was a minor point, in the grand scheme of things, and cavedcreeky wrote:All schools here have compulsory uniforms. Girls had to wear the dress or pinafore. I hear you . . . tailored and classic is better, can be very sexy, and doesn't have to be boring!SchoolGirlHeart wrote:I missed his comment, but there are some things that really are taboo as one gets older, definitely...... when I was about 6, I wanted to go without a shirt, like the boys. my mother finally had to simply threaten me with a spanking if I took it off, because her explanation for keeping a shirt on while the boys had theirs off was falling on deaf 6 year old ears (I mean, really, when you're 6, does it really matter?creeky wrote:My parents worked out pretty quickly that I was a tomboy ...

I hear ya! I was more interested in working in my dads workshop with him, hammering and drilling and stuff than playing with dolls - but they still bought me dollsSchoolGirlHeart wrote:when I was about 6, I wanted to go without a shirt, like the boys. my mother finally had to simply threaten me with a spanking if I took it off, because her explanation for keeping a shirt on while the boys had theirs off was falling on deaf 6 year old ears (I mean, really, when you're 6, does it really matter?creeky wrote:My parents worked out pretty quickly that I was a tomboy ...![]()

I PM'd Larry to get him to weigh in on this issue! lol
(Really, I was curious to see if he remembered what his grandma and grandpa used to wear!!)
Now, I need to be off and drinking more ginger ale for my upset tummy. This was fun! G'night!
