So....

Given that The Reach is now the venue for most stuff by the sound of it, what are the plans for the BN Phlocking?

I guess it would be really wrong of me to say that yesterday was my last day of work!!
Today is "get ready" day!! We get on the plane at 6:30 AM tomorrow and the adventure begins from there!!
We don't have a car rental when we land in Fort Lauderdale, and we don't have a room for Saturday night. :-?
On the plus side, we have a room on Sunday....which is probably how long it'll take us to walk there!

I just don't feel comfortable going through a 3rd party at this point :-?
With everything going on down there, I want to get confirmation from a live human that I have a car.
But I can't get through on any of the phone numbers to FLL car rentals...

I agree on the third party thing, but what I do is make comparisons on orbitz, then go to the actual site for that rental agency. I went to the Budget site, made a reservation, and actually have a Budget confirmation number. Honestly, I think that conf. number might be of more value than having talked to an anonymous human in FLL....

a couple from the Telegraph:

How extensive on the inside, I don't know. There are piles of debris all over the island. Most of the residents and businesses have picked it up and set it beside the road to be hauled off by the county. With so much it may take a while. With Dennis it was a couple weeks before it was all picked up and Wilma has been worse.

Seems like the media is focusing on the negatives again. There is plenty of gas in the keys. I think most peoples cars can hold enough gas to fill up mid way though the state and not have to fill up again until they are in the keys. Once here, stay awhile, but if you must leave, there will be gas for you then.

AND

Right now for those traveling through South Florida remember that they
are experiencing major power problems. There are long gas lines at the
gas stations not because of lack of gas, but because lack of power to
pump it. Traffic lights are not working in many areas. Currenty there is
a 6am to 8pm curfew in Miami-Dade and a 7am - 11pm curfew in Broward
County. If you have reserved a rental, please consider the fact that you
will not want to be stopping for gas, so an economy will be better, also
make sure it is full before you leave the airport. If possible you may
want to see if you can get a flight straight through to Key Wet. But,
remember that right now there are no rental cars in Key Wet.

Remeber folks these are the current conditions things are improving
daily. Here are some useful links for you;

Ft Lauderdale Airport (FLL)

I haven't heard back either.

I'm at the Reach, not the Casa, but I sent the email as instructed.

probably a good idea. I did that last year, and even tho it was a bit more expensive to rent for the whole week out of FLL, renting one for a couple days out of EYW and a day down there was worth the convenience of knowing I had one.
