Whaddya say, fellow MOTMers. Let's show them how much we appreciate their incredible efforts on our behalf!

been saying it all week..
so now, all I have to do is look for Alex, and his band of Helper Elves (Mssrs. Page, Moore, and Heffelfinger) in their green velvet shorts, floppy hats, and curly-toed shoes...

Doesn't look like everyone is happy about us tourists coming back to town. I guess we all should just be happy and thankful there is still a Key West for us to go to. Keep sending that Phin Power their way everyone!!!!!!
((((((KEY WEST RESIDENTS))))))
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/13033024.htm
Like many here, Yarbrough finds it upsetting that some would want to kick up their heels in Key West so soon after a catastrophe. ''Parrotheads'' -- a group of hat-wearing Jimmy Buffett fans -- are scheduled to begin their annual celebration later this week. And some revelers who apparently didn't get the word, or didn't care, that the city's annual Fantasy Fest celebration had been postponed, erupted in a costume parade late Friday.
''You get these tourists in and they are sucking up our commodities, the little bit of milk we have, the little bit of gas we have,'' Yarbrough said. ``We are having to carpool people to work. I have to get up an hour earlier to pick up three extra firefighters.''

So I guess it would be better to stay home and cause even more economic problems in Key West for the long run, based on Mr. Yarbrough's assessment. I promise not to drink any milk, and I'll walk. Maybe that would make him happy.

No need to be a smart a$$, RR. They're in a Catch 22. They'd really rather not have us there, and have some time to put their lives back together, but the fact is that the economy is a tourtist economy, so they need us there.
I think we'd all be wise to be very sensitive to their predicament. If your server or your bartender isn't the happiest camper, maybe it's because his or her home or car is wrecked. I think we need to bring a HUGE measure of tolerance to KW with us.....

for bit@@in about poor poor me I am a victim is running thin..
Honestly? we are hearing more people who are ungrateful
or just flat out scammers than we are hearing the
real
Victims
I will do my best all week..

I understand that it is not a great time for them; but the tone of the article was kind of along the lines of, "those exploitive, insensitive bastards. Who are they to come in here?"
We could just as well stay home, and then you'd hear another segment of the population complaining in interviews about how the hurricanes killed the tourism industry entirely.
I don't see a lot of novelty in being caught between "come on in!!! We love your money" and "screw you, you insensitive weasels".

That's nice.
I am pretty sure in the long run none of the residents of KW that depend on people like us want us to stay away. It's probably a little difficult for them to watch us party and have a good time knowing we can go back to our still intact homes. If you haven't lived it RR, and I am not sure if you have or haven't it's more then a little difficult. I have so I can very much relate to what he is saying. Does that make me want to stay home?? No it makes me want to go even more and try to help this island we all like to visit get back on it's feet again.

No, I haven't exactly lost anything to fire, flood, tornado or hurricane, earthquake or 1000' blast-radius explosion like friends and family. I have lived thru a couple 100 year floods, and had family endure a 500 year one up in the Red River country in 1998. Nothing like watching buildings you spend time in when you were a kid/teenager surrounded by 5-6' of water and on fire because the fire trucks can't get to them.
For the record, yes, my remarks were a bit smart-a$$ed. Do I want to stay home? no. Do I want people torqued at me because I showed up and am donating money to keep their economy alive? not really, either.
Maybe the article was designed to give us pause. Maybe the writer had a personal axe to grind. Maybe they caught Yarbrough at a really bad time for that quote. I don't know.
I do know that I am still planning on going down with work gloves and boots packed in case they need help. I am not going down with a Marie Antoinette attitude of, "mere peasants, why are they not happy to be waiting on me hand and foot..."

So you'll only have the hair, makeup and the hat??

I like the edit also. Guess you didn't think we would get the "attitude" reference.

you've met me.. did I hae that much hair last year?
and I thought I should clarify. I do feel sorry for the wave of hurt that went thru KW; I just don't like the idea of being thought the poster boy for excess in a disaster area.
