RIP Terry.
Throughout this whole ordeal, I could not get rid of the feeling that there is much more to the story. There is something else there, not sure what. I don't trust either party, and I don't kow why.
And I'm saddened that Terry had to pay for it with her life.

You're AWESOME! (But I really wish you'd change your screen name).jbsux wrote:Terri Schiavo died this morning, sail on angel, sail on. Lets just hope and pray the ones who killed you will pay for their sins.
GO WITH GOD AND REST WELL, TERRY! HEAVEN IS A BETTER PLACE TODAY, AND THE REST OF US ARE POORER. MAY YOU SPEND THE REST OF ETERNITY SMILING WITH THE ANGELS.

May all of this family find peace.
So many of us have followed this tragic story, but how many of us have learned from their pain & taken the legal measures to make sure we don't wind up paddling their canoe? My own family learned the hard way that in many states a living will is not enough. Luckily, we had a durable power of attorney that allowed us to carry out the wishes of a loved one--- without it we would have been unable to do so --- & that was without discenting family members.
No matter how you stand on the issue, do those you love a favor and make your wishes known and file the necessary legal paperwork.

and we used to sing Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-ti-da

As a long time Pinellas County resident.... I cannot but have helped paying attention to this story over the years. I have avoided public opinion on this issue because there has been too much of it IMO.... I have always believed it was a personal family issue and hated the press for blowing it up. We all agree it is a horrible, sad thing to have happen to anyone, old or young. However…If we posted a poll which asked,
"If you become brain dead with no chance of recovery and have no quality of life do you want to be kept alive just for the sake of being alive?"....
Would there be an overwhelming positive response? I seriously doubt it!
Terri should be proud, at her expense, we have become more aware of why everyone over the age of 18 needs a medical directive. Thank you!
I hope now that Terri has passed on her family can come to terms with the tragedy that happened 15 years ago. And not hate her husband because he did.
Sail on Terri.... I hope you caught the Buffett show at the Sun Dome in 1989!

An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.
so you liken the Vatican to religious Zealots??BuPHalo Jim wrote:Sail on Terri! All of the religious zealots who were screaming to keep Terri alive should take solice in the fact she is now with the God they claim to represent.
Vatican Denounces Terri Schiavo's Death
"The circumstances of the death of Ms. Terri Schiavo have rightly disturbed consciences"
"The Vatican denounced the "arbitrarily hastened" death of Terri Schiavo on Thursday as a violation of principles of Christianity and civilization, and a cardinal described her end as a "death sentence executed through a cruel method."
"Schiavo's death was a "human tragedy, but also an ethical, juridical and cultural tragedy." ..her loss of life in a hospice in Florida to a "death sentence executed through a cruel method."

Has anyone else here ever sat at the bedside of a relative in the care of hospice? Anybody else ever wonder why they could euthanize their DOG b/c the dog is old, in pain, and will never be able regain and semblance of quality life, but have to watch for a WEEK and wonder why they couldn't do the same for their own MOTHER?
I'm not saying that I am uniquely qualified to have an opinion. But I do know that going through that experience w/ my mother absolutely solidified my feelings on the subject.
GOD(or the Deity of your choice) BLESS Hospice Care workers. They are the most special people on this Earth.
I am not Catholic, but I do believe in a God.
Somebody said this is Ted Turner's fault-AMEN to that! A generation ago, we never would have even known about this, although similar situations are happening EVERYWHERE.
Somebody else pointed out the positive side, which I definitely want to echo:
BECAUSE we know about this, we have an OPPORTUNITY to clearly communicate to our families what we want to have done in the event that we become incapacitated. Living wills, organ donorships, etc. TELL EVERYONE in your family what you want. Let there be NO DOUBT. Not only are you then sure that your wishes will be followed, but there will be so much less stress on your loved ones in the event that this plan has to be put into action.

Re: Sail on Terri Schiavo
Where did I say that? I didn't. I'm simply saying that those who would cloak themselves in religious piety ought to be paying heed to the actual teachings in the Bible, even when angered by the acts of another person. Sorry you didn't get the point.LaTda wrote:so, BS, you are saying if someone kills a family member of yours, like jesus, you'd turn the other cheeky? get realBlonde Stranger wrote:Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure Jesus wouldn't have said this about any other person.jbsux wrote:Lets just hope and pray the ones who killed you will pay for their sins.
