He hasn't been this ill for 15 years.LaTda wrote:glad to see he's being fed at least
I was shocked to read today that the Soviet Union put out the request for a hit on him in 1981 in the failed assassination attempt.tikitatas wrote:He hasn't been this ill for 15 years.LaTda wrote:glad to see he's being fed at least

I remember it happening, I just didn't know the Soviet Union was to blame (ultimately)
I agree. Do any of you all know how they go about choosing a new one?tequilatom wrote:i was working out and it came across the tv, very sad, prayers go out to him.i'd be surprised he makes the weekend. i hope i'm wrong.but he doesn't look good.LaTda wrote:I was shocked to read today that the Soviet Union put out the request for a hit on him in 1981 in the failed assassination attempt.tikitatas wrote:He hasn't been this ill for 15 years.LaTda wrote:glad to see he's being fed at least

something along the line of carinals voting.i'm trying to remember from the last pope.all i can remember is i may get this backwards.but, if the dark smoke turns to white they have decided on the new pope.usually its a cardinal though.someone fill in the blanks where i may be wrong.Parrotheadpressgrl wrote:I agree. I think you're on the right track with the smoke thing, but I could be wrong too.tequilatom wrote:something along the line of carinals voting.i'm trying to remember from the last pope.all i can remember is i may get this backwards.but, if the dark smoke turns to white they have decided on the new pope.usually its a cardinal though.someone fill in the blanks where i may be wrong.Parrotheadpressgrl wrote:I agree. The first part of it is RD-ish version...but there is more info on the page
kath , hi and you are right about the term last rights.when my dad was in the hospital they did the same. i need the exact terminology, but i can't get mom is away.i'm catholic and attend mass every sunday, but i don't know everything about the catholic church.i agree with you on the public apperances, it is hard to see him struggle.as far as not seeing i'm not sure.it's like anything in life that you may be close to.not being able to see that someone or something.Brown Eyed Girl wrote:On the radio they have been quick to point out that the term "Last Rites" is no longer used...you Catholics will have to help me out here but it was something along the lines of "The Sacrament of the Infirm" and doesn't necessarily presume that death is imminent. I found that interesting.
It is obvious that he is very ill and has been for some time. Not being Catholic, those who are will have to tell me...is it more painful to see him the way he is now or to not see him at all? I did hear that they were going to stop all public appearances.
I know that from my point of view it is painful to see his public appearances with his inability to speak and obvious frustration, but that is just from a human standpoint, not a religious based one.

i understood what you were saying.one thing i always stay away from in discssions is religion and politics.Brown Eyed Girl wrote:Thanks Tom.tequilatom wrote:kath , hi and you are right about the term last rights.when my dad was in the hospital they did the same. i need the exact terminology, but i can't get mom is away.i'm catholic and attend mass every sunday, but i don't know everything about the catholic church.i agree with you on the public apperances, it is hard to see him struggle.as far as not seeing i'm not sure.it's like anything in life that you may be close to.not being able to see that someone or something.Brown Eyed Girl wrote:On the radio they have been quick to point out that the term "Last Rites" is no longer used...you Catholics will have to help me out here but it was something along the lines of "The Sacrament of the Infirm" and doesn't necessarily presume that death is imminent. In rereading my question I'm not sure if I made sense. I can tell how important it is to people to see the Pope at his window, to receive his blessing etc...you don't need to be Catholic to understand the importance of that to the visitors. My question was along that line...is seeing him feeble and frustrated better than waiting there and not seeing him at all? I know what my answer is, but as I said, that is not faith based, just human nature based.
Several of my dear friends are Catholic and they always do their best to answer my questions...but since I'm not at home I not around them to ask. We've gotten into many thought provoking discussions over the years and whether we agree or disagree it has never harmed our friendship, which is as it should be.
Same here from Tennessee.parrothead338 wrote:Some major Phin Power coming his way from Boston...
You are correct, I have unfortunately recieved the sacrament twice, prior to emergency surgery. This was truely a strong willed pope who has seen the catholic church through some difficult times. The cardinals will assemble and choose the next pope. You are correct about the smoke reference.Brown Eyed Girl wrote:On the radio they have been quick to point out that the term "Last Rites" is no longer used...you Catholics will have to help me out here but it was something along the lines of "The Sacrament of the Infirm" and doesn't necessarily presume that death is imminent.
