JB @JB 4Shore

Post by Goodman »

Jimmy will play Jones Beach this summer for a Calaloo/Gonzo Stew full of reasons:

1. He promised he'd play there last summer. Many of us were there when he did.
2. NY/LI is a major market for him.
3. His summer home in Sag Harbor ain't that far.
4. Southampton College (where he often played) is defunct.
5. JJW will not be playin in Amagansett/Stephen's Talkhouse..
6. I don't believe JB did any charity shows out east this past winter.
7. LI/NY is effectively the homecourt for the summer tour IMHO.
8. The arena is 10 minutes from my house and JB doesn't feel I should have to trek to NJ or Philly when the beach here bears his initials.

If I'm wrong I'll change my name. (If BN lets you). :-)

Goodman, Goodman, Goodman..................

It looks like we are getting screwed this year big time.......... The only hope for something remotely close would be another "All For the Sea" benefit show............ I'm pretty sure that the marine biology part of Southamton College is still intact, so maybe we'll get lucky.......... Other than that, the summer tour seems to be in place and overall it looks pretty lame........... Its obvious that he will not be doing as many shows when he has decided to do Stadiums where he can make more $$$ doing less shows............ I'm sad to say this, but I'm predicting this is the start of the end to the Jimmy Buffett we once knew............

I hope you are right Goodman. I was at JB last year on Labor Day weekend and two years prior. What a place to see a show!

Well the Goodmans made their first pilgrimmage of the spring to JB. As we began to walk on the boardwalk in an easterly direction we passed the famous Jones Beach Surf Shop. It is home to tshirts, hats and assorted over-priced beach paraphernalia.

No sooner did we enter the shop then I heard the familiar strains of CheeseBurger in Paradise. I'm guessing the shop's proprietor is a PH and was listening to either SYKBH or MMIM since I think I heard Come Monday right after.

I'm taking these happenings as harbingers of JB to come later this summer.

Fever Pitch- Buffett Style

Post by Goodman »

Took Mrs Goodman to see the Jimmy Fallon/Drew Barrymore flick about love and an obsessed Red Sox fan.

Could they have just as easily dropped the sox and substituted Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefer Band? Well, not exactly but with a little poetic license to chill and margaritaville madness I think you could make a movie about a Buffett obsessed fan. I like Fallon (he posed for a picture with my daughter in Woodstock a few years back), so I'd cast him as the lead.

Let's cast the revised film- shall we?

The Jones Beach schedule was announced this morning and Jimmy Buffett isn't on it. They always add more shows later but looking at the open dates at the beach and JB's current schedule I don't see him coming back this year.

He also said (this year) that Charlotte, NC is the northern edge of the Parrothead nation. I mean if you're going to use the arguement "Jimmy said this or that", you might as well include everything. :P

With the recent negative reports about the Jones Beach schedule missing one JB- many of ye of little faith might begin to doubt, or worse yet, panic.
Goodman remains guardedly positive, buoyed in the knowledge that it is never easy to bank on a JB show.

I never panic. If JB doesn't play near me, I just go where he is playing. No whining, no complaining, just pack a bag and start traveling.

He has in the past few years played it on only even # years and I bet he figures to get the NYC area with Monhegan Sun. I hope you are right though.
