Rolling Stone did a huge section on him with essays written by many people who had worked with him over the years. Interesting but odd.

I met Hunter S. in 1990 in Santa Fe New Mexico. I was attending a convention put on by the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He gave a speech because the NACDL had helped him out of a drug conviciton. I have to say it was very difficult to listen to him. The president grabbed him and took him off the stage because he was somewhat incoherent. The one thing you could always say about Hunter was that he was authentic. It was not an act. A lot of his writing was drug fueled, but he was capable of some brillant prose. Go read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. No one else on the planet could have written that. Journalism has become a money making venture. There are no gonzo journalists left. I think we have all lost something with his passing. Sail on Hunter S. Thompson. I miss you.
