I remember seeing the Rolling Stones 5th annual this is the last time we're ever gonna tour the United States tour back in the late 70's.

I don't even see what he's implying in that quote as far as retirement goes. Isn't he just referring to this recent surge in popularity thanks to his reassociation with nashville? He understands fame and publicity better than anyone and knows this will just die down again now that the new album and book are starting to run their course.

Doesn't mean he's planning on retiring. He never had that great of a singing voice and, like he said, if he can keep his voice and not use a prompter, he could be here for a while yet.

He's obviously making more money now than ever and his restaurants are just starting to take off (inter)nationally so it wouldn't even be a good time to take himself out of the business equation.

And people need to stop saying that "he's almost 60" - that means nothing anymore. He certainly doesn't act or look like he's too old for this.

If Dylan, Neil Young, McCartney, Willie, Clapton, Merle Haggard, Van Morrison, etc. can keep touring I don't see why Buffett can't.

.... Rolling Stones, James Taylor, The Dead, Simon & Garfunkel - that list goes on and on.

It's also important to point out that the ones just listed are the only ones selling tickets anymore. And many of them are still creating good, new music.

Around Jack Johnson's tune before set break he did mention that he will do this next year and heck why not the next 11 years... Then he said something along the lines "then we will be old..."

I think Jimmy is liking our collective money too much to retire anytime soon.

True fans, or RICH fans?

Ya don't have to be rich to travel- I have proven that for 23 years. You do have to desire to travel and save and plan for it. And if Jimmy played somewhere once a year, I would make it a point to beg, borrow or steal to be there.

I also heard him about this same time on the RM show. He's not going anywhere yet. :pirate:

Besides, he's such a capitalist that he would do a whole summer of nothing but stadiums, more shows and hype it as a farewell tour to squeeze EVERY dollar out of it.

8) :pirate: 8)
as long as jimmy has his "loyal diversified fan" base...
"18 to 80, blind, crippled and crazy"...
i don't see him retiring....
maybe just cutting back on the number of tour dates...

:pirate: 8) :pirate:
i know i don't get there often enough...

FIrst of all... how many is a couple?

He has said (in the intermission Carson tribute) that he respected how Johnny retired... really retired. Which leads me to think he may be envious that he cannot do the same. Since what he does and what Carson did are 2 different things. Granted they are both entertainers, but I dont see Jimmy just stopping abruptly. I see him cutting back his touring.

Jimmy is a storyteller. I dont think he is out of stories.

I think he will cut back too, as he already has, but I also think that when he retires, that he will do as Carson did, and that will be the end of his performing days.

I'm sure the Coral Reefers and all the other folks who are employed by the Buffett SHOW are also depending on their salaries.

Bless Jimmy. I hope he continues to have fun for a long, long time and I hope the Coral Reefers, etc. are enjoying their jobs too.

oh well, I'm ready for it, after all I was a parrothead before I'd been to any shows..Now it's to the point where I have an island time state of mind and thanks to Jimmy there is plenty of island music out there to keep me goin'.......
Amen to that. Life will go on after Jimmy decided to ride into the sunset.
