Some of you people make me wonder why I'm even a member here.

I'll make no apologies-- I like LTC alot. As a matter of fact, I think it's his strongest effort of his last 4 or 5 records. Every song is a great pick and Doyle is absolutely shredding the pedal! I love that guy. Also, the guitar work on LTC is WAY above average for a newer Buffett record..

I agree, despite his commerical aspirations with this album it's among my favorites of his last few. Sonny Landreth and Bill Payne also brought at a lot to the table musically this time out as well.

Last night's setlist was the worst of the tour. Hope he shakes that before Hawaii. "Piece Of Work" and "Coast of Carolina" is all the LTC we need.
Change that to Conchy Talkin' (or Simply Complicated in Cinci) and Coast of Carolina, and you have a deal.

Add me to the list. I really like this album. And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this his first #1 album and a big seller? If the fans are buying, I can't blame him for playing the songs.

I still like the old stuff too, so don't beat me too hard. :pirate:

I listen to the songs I like and head to the can during the ones I don't.

Is Sonny the one doing all that slide work? Outstanding job. I only hope the JB can retain those two again for the next album.

I guess I don't see anything wrong with expressing the opinion that this isn't my favorite setlist. I recognize the fact that others like this setlist. That's fine; we're never all going to agree. Viva la difference.

I'm not whining or slamming Jimmy. I'm ecstatic that he still hits the road and give us the chance to see a show. But I don't think it's sacrilege to say I would have preferred some of the older stuff. That's what discussion is all about. I like LTC well enough, and recognize that it's a hit, but had hoped to hear a little less of it this year, just like we heard a little less of FSOTW during the Tiki Time Tour, because I personally would much rather hear, say, A1A than LTC. Nothing but my opinion, not worth a thing to anyone but me. But it's also not a negative; it's just a discussion.....

No apology necessary even if you were so inclined, IMHO. There's absolutely nothing wrong with you liking LTC. I, too, recognize the great musicianship that went into the album. But I still have to say that, overall, for me, I prefer some of the earlier albums. :D

Yes, it is. He was also on Far Side of the World. Not only would I love for him to appear on the next album but to become a permanent member of the Coral Reefer Band but I imagine he's too busy for that with his own solo career and commitments to John Hiatt's Goners.

If you want to hear some great guitar work pick up Sonny Landreth's latest CD, Grant Street. It's outstanding.

There is a certain attitude on this site that any critical discussion of the music is sacrilege. Music is a wonderful form of artistic expression and worthy of criticism. Not every JB album will appeal to every fan given the huge swing of his fan base from liberal beach bum to conservative yuppie. Rarely has a discussion turned into personal attacks so please keep expressing your thoughts and opinions.

Point taken SGH! I guess I'm kind of acting out of frustration :x due to the fact that JB doesn't get the roadshow to the Detroit area consistently anymore and I'm not able to make the roadies like I'd like to......therefore my comment, any setlist heard is a good setlist heard!

I hereby acknowledge your right to free speech/opinion!!

Well said, except I can't say I agree with the last part. Fortunately there are other boards/lists out there where differing opinions are accepted.

Sonny Landreth is not featured on the up coming John Hiatt cd. I wonder if he will bw touring with John this summer?

Don't forget about another great artists that plays on LTC, the great Will Kimbrough.

I am fairly new to actually posting here so I might have missed the nasty threads. Sad to hear they happen....

I have no idea but I did hear Hiatt canceled his appearance at MerleFest this year. Sonny may well be out on the road on his own, I know he's playing Sugar Hill Records' SugarFest in Durham in June. More info here if you're interested:

Me too, and I know it's something that goes on to a degree on most sites but it can be pretty prevalent here, depending on who you're talking to. For instance, in the Brooks and Done thread in Off Tropics I've already been told to leave twice just for expressing my opinion. I'm all for Buffett's "growing older, but not up" philsophy but some folks take that outlook to the wrong extreme, unfortunately.

Cannot say I minded his set list at the Pond too much last night but what did bother me to a large degree was the tempo of some of the songs....normally played in an upbeat tempo..exciting the crowd, making it easier to stand up or dance along. Southern Cross was played slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwly..almost hanging on every verse...was odd..actually yawned a couple time last night...could be an age thingie :o

The day will come when we talk of seeing Bubba in concert in the past tense...until that day..he can play whatever the hell he wants and whatever tempo he desires!!!!!!

Buffett is what he is. He is doing this day to day, and year to year. His diversity is what has both 19 and 60 year olds posting on this website and buying concert tickets. We can go back and forth among ourselves all we want...then smile and laugh and have our boat drinks together. Thank you Jimmy for all you do for your wide range of fans. If we didn't love ya we wouldn't care so darn much!

Cheers!

I'm new to this site, but sitting in Baghdad listening to "Songs you Know by Heart" I can't help but think that the first time I heard "Come Monday" was in Vietnam. Jimmy's still doin' it for me, 30 years later. Life's short, enjoy the music you enjoy and don't listen to the stuff you don't. I've never seen Buffet in concert! He really needs to do a USO tour someday.
