Family Dog Haiku:
my dog dreams, runs, leaps
cats on nightly walks haunt him
under cars they wait.
tennis balls the prize
he will run, tongue long, panting
'till his legs give out.
knock on door he barks
guarding the pack's den, faithful
brave, he won't back down.
leaving, he must stay
sad eyes plead take me with you
his face in window.
old, tired, friend in pain
the years were good you and I
needle, sleep, friend good-bye.

Family Dog Haiku: Part II
Old friend not on couch
Miss that bark, friendly tail wag
No more pets too hard.
Time heals, dogs in park
I know that fun too well now
That one just like ours.
Take the plunge new friend
Puppy plays, chews, sleeps on couch
Likes tennis balls too.
Swore never again
But now I know keep loving
Never stop living.
