Finishing the Basement

Post by kurt »

Hi all - have not been around in a while// mostly due to no more access to the internet at work :x Also I have dial-up at home so clicking takes a lot longer :x :x

Anyway, I'm calling out to all who have finished their basements. Any suggestions that you would like to make? Yeah, the kitchenette w/ bar is a given but how about waterproofing such as concrete sealer or a vapor barrier? Xtra storage vs. another bedroom? Gas fireplace and a full bath will also be put in. The reason why I ask is that I have found that many times other peoples' perspectives really help. Anything that you wish you had installed/built b4 you finalized your plans?

Thanks and yes, I have been shut out to every Bubba concert I have tried for this year. :-? Grrrrrrrrrr...

i dont have a basement -- in florida those underground structures are called pools ..

but as far as waterproofing ... you can do SOME on the interior, however, in order to keep it dry, the waterproofin has to be in place on the exterior. as long as you have moisture in the concrete or masonry, anything you try to do 'interior wise' is only gonna be temporary and will require alot of maintenance

The first question I would ask is; how long do you plan on staying in this house? If this is the last house you foresee buying, then build what you want/need. If you plan on selling it, ask as realtor what would increase the home's value.
