Morning Edition, April 13, 2005 ยท The results of a study related to Alzheimer's suggest there is a new way to halt or even reverse the disease. The experimental treatment uses antibodies to attack a protein thought to destroy brain cells. Scientists say the results are highly preliminary but promising.

I heard about this yesterday on "All Things Considered" on NPR. I hope this is a breakthrough.

I haven't had a chance to listen to it but a friend of mine did, he said they actually reversed some damage in at least 5 patents.

I hope they're on the right right track.

Sounds very promising! 6 out of 7 showed improvement and the condition of the 7th patient did not worsen.

Me too. :) After losing my Grandmother to the disease, I would hope this is a positive breakthrough. :)

Wow. That would be so wonderful if this horrible thing could be stopped. It's one thing to die "normally" but to "go" over a long period of time and just not have your very BEING intact....awful.

We watched it happen to hubby's dear grandmother over the course of about seven years. I'm just so thankful I knew her for a little while when she was still "herself."

My grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimers last year, though she has had some form of dementia for some time. Her mother had it as well. I was pretty young, but I still remember my great grandmother in the later stages, and the effects on my grandmother & mother. It is one of the tougher diseases on the loved ones of the victim.
